Salary Range: $42.24 - $53.28 /hour

The Spiritual Care Practitioner (SCPs) nurture the spiritual health and wholeness of patients, residents and families through all stages of life. SCPs support the spiritual, missional, and ethical focus of St. Joseph's through site-based spiritual emphasis, advocacy, special events and involvement in facility/committees, ensuring ethical reflection, spiritual care education and support of staff. The position provides linkages to community spiritual and religious partners in order to serve the needs of patients, residents and families.

The successful candidate may provide coverage at all St. Joseph's sites including Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health and Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, and provide virtual care as needed. Additional work may be required on some weekends and holidays as well as ability to respond to requests as part of the after-hours 24/7 on-call team

Essential Qualifications

  • Completion of a Masters degree in Divinity, Religious, Theological, or Pastoral Studies, Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy
  • Certification as a Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner and/or Certified Psychospiritual Therapist with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC)
  • Member in good standing with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC)
  • 3 years of spiritual care experience in acute care, ambulatory care, or long-term care settings
  • You are an experienced chaplain ready to join a progressive spiritual care team based on your energy, flexibility, and vision for the future
  • You are a self-directed, professional, and eager to participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in meeting the spiritual needs of our patients, residents, families, and staff of all faiths
  • You possess team skills which will assist you in being a strong contributor in our interdisciplinary patient and resident-focused care model
  • Exceptional technological skills including Smart Board Technology, audiovisual equipment and iPads as well as skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, care documentation programs like Point Click Care, and One Chart
  • Exceptional communication skills and conflict resolution
  • Exceptional ability to establish positive relationships and work as an effective team member
  • You possess a strong ability to understand and nurture the spiritual life unique to older adults through respectful assessment and provision of appropriate spiritual expression.
  • You possess excellent facilitation skills in leading faith gatherings, spiritual groups and memorial services that are sensitive to spiritual and religious belief.
  • You are skilled in partnering with community spiritual and religious affiliates allowing for connection to clergy support, sacramental provision and rituals.
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • A police record check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership as a Registered Psychotherapist in the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is preferred
  • Experience in meeting the spiritual needs of residents and patients in Long Term Care, Forensic Mental Health, and virtual care settings is an asset.
  • Proficiency in French would an asset

As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
