About The Opportunity

The Medical Clerk creates an organized, efficient, and welcoming environment for both clients and visitors. The role involves assisting the Nurse Practitioner ensuring the clients’ needs are prioritized, with all individuals treated with dignity and respect. They direct inquiries and provide administrative and clinical support while working within a team to ensure that the organization operates smoothly, with excellent client service and community engagement.

Duties And Responsibilities

Client Service and Support

  • Contribute to a welcoming, respectful, and accessible environment for all clients and members of the community
  • Respond to client needs both in-person and via telephone
  • Assist clients with navigating clinic areas and provide light physical assistance when necessary
  • Schedule and follow up on client appointments
  • Assist with clinical procedures/exams based on direction from Nurse Practitioner or other clinical staff
  • Maintain client service areas and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and infection control measures are followed (e.g., cleaning and resetting equipment/furniture after each client visit).
  • Provide competent services to clients in accordance with required standards, legal requirements, and organizational policies.

Documentation and Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems for confidential information, including client records
  • Complete record keeping and record management responsibilities

General Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support for special projects as requested
  • Participate in cross-training of other administrative positions as required
  • Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient use of time for the organization and management

Qualifications And Skills

Education

  • Graduate from a recognized medical assistant training program, such as Clinic Office Assistance, Health Care Aide and/or Medical Records Technician.
  • Completion of PHIA training.

Skills, Expertise And Experience

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position; including the ability to accompany and physically support clients around the clinic.
  • Demonstrated ability to be empathetic and compassionate.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Experience and training in recording vital signs and assisting practitioners in medical examinations
  • Experience working in electronic medical records and EMR such as Accuro is considered an asset
  • Experience working in social services and knowledge of community services is considered an asset
  • Ability to use office equipment such as printer, photocopier, fax and computer etc.

Other Essential Requirements

  • Certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, clear Child Abuse Registry Check with acceptable Prior Contact Check outcomes and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check
  • Ability to perform independently, take initiative, and as a member of the team.

WORK LOCATION: Winnipeg

WORK HOURS: Part-time. 21 hours per week depending on clinic hours and program needs.

HOURLY WAGE: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour - Depending on qualifications. The Link offers a benefit package and on-site parking.
