Job Purpose

Service Managers duties begin with maintaining and scheduling all work pertaining to the shop & field service technicians. Controlling all maintenance records for all equipment and verifying work is done in a timely fashion. Conduct safety discussions with service techs. Prepare job estimates, open and close work orders, review work orders prior to invoicing to ensure correctness. Review work quotas and assist the technicians with the technical data they will need. Requires periodic travel for technical service work, training, orientation, or educational purposes.

Essential Functions

  • Managing and supervising subordinates, employee relations, team development and customer service/sales.
  • Daily Reporting to Regional Service MGR on all updates
  • 24/7 availability to phone for emergency call outs
  • Scheduling of all field & shop service technicians for Surrey, BC location
  • Daily interaction with our field & shop technicians assisting in all facets of their work
  • Submit all warranty items in a timely fashion to stay within warranty timelines
  • Maintain daily contact with customers to confirm work, schedule and progress of each job
  • Training for new systems and assist with new technology for the technicians
  • Review and confirmation of all work orders from the technicians in order to bill appropriately per job, either time and material and or quote

Additional Responsibilities

  • Log and confirm full safety orientation and requirements for all technicians monthly
  • Maintain existing service contracts
  • Communicate daily with sales team/management on the status of jobs and customer concerns.
  • Maintain and enhance own product and technical knowledge in the heavy equipment and crane industry.
  • Follow-up on leads and application opportunities.
  • Product support for customers

Experience/Training/Education

Qualifications Guidelines

Required: BA or 5 years equivalent work history. Strong working knowledge of crane and construction equipment operations and mechanical functions. Valid driver’s license. Experience supervising others.

Desired: Technical degree, Engineering degree or Vocational training in mechanical, hydraulic and / or electronic assembly. Understanding of technician’s work, energetic go getter, ability to work independently.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Mobile Hydraulic Crane & Lattice Crawler Crane knowledge and experience. Solid shop floor management knowledge and experience. Good understanding of financial reporting principles. Solid understanding of pricing and discounting effects. Good business acumen. Ability to lead and mentor subordinates and leadership skills in a specialized repair environment. Excellent communication skills, solid customer service skills, the ability to multi-task, work independently, and a can-do attitude. Requires knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical assemblies, testing experience, ability to recognize all colors in a normal spectrum, and an eye for detail. Requires knowledge and understanding of product line; knowledge of office practices, business correspondence techniques and English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation; principles of customer service, public relations and communications; records management and file maintenance; knowledge of word processing, data base and spreadsheet software applications. Skills required include use of standard office equipment including telephones, calculators, copiers and facsimile equipment, accurately type at the net rate of 40 words per minute using a computer keyboard. Ability to accept constructive criticism; Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; prioritize, organize, and complete tasks independently. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; work under pressure, possess strong people and organizational skills; work cooperatively with customers, sales representatives, staff, management, and other associates.

Physical And Environmental Elements

This is primarily a sedentary office classification and employees work in an office with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The position occasionally works in a factory environment with exposure to noise and machinery. Finger dexterity is required, as well as hand strength, with the ability to grasp, lift, push and pull; access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and may lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
