Fasten your seatbelt, Fix Network is looking for a Law Clerk to join our Blainville-based team. The Law Clerk will be primarily responsible for providing professional support and assistance to various internal business units, as well as supporting and managing the organization's franchise disclosure and documentation processes. He/she will also be responsible for the day-to-day administration of our franchisees' agreements, and for advising internal business units on the interpretation, application and implementation of these agreements.
A day in the life of a Law Clerk at Réseau Fix:- Ability to translate legal documents into English and French.
- Coordinate the delivery and execution of franchise disclosure documents, franchise agreements, ensure filing deadlines are met, draft amendments, addenda and all related correspondence.
- Perform annual updates to the franchise disclosure document.
- Track all workflow steps and provide updates to the legal team and business partners as appropriate.
- Draft and comprehensively edit legal documents, contracts and correspondence in English and French.
- Perform general clerical and secretarial tasks.
- Communicate with external legal advisors on complex issues.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the company's subsidiaries and staff based in Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe and Australia (as applicable).
- Advise internal business units regarding franchise agreements, landlord and tenant matters, contests, marketing and promotions, trademark use, and implement necessary recommendations.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with franchise disclosure, trademark, privacy, advertising and anti-spam laws.
- Research and analyze contracts and other legal documents to investigate facts and determine the rights and obligations of the company, its franchisees, and other business partners.
- Receive and retrieve company files and compile applicable documentation.
- Mastery of eCore (formerly CyberBahn) and Quebec Enterprise Registrar searches.
What you need to accomplish this role:
- Bachelor's or college degree required, with legal/paralegal certification preferred, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- 5-7 years of direct professional experience as a lawyer/paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department, with experience in franchising and contracts preferred but not required.
- 4+ years experience translating legal documents from English to French, and French to English.
- Critical and persuasive thinking, analytical and research skills are essential.
- Proven ability to stay organized and work effectively and efficiently in a multi-tasking environment with a high workload and minimal supervision.
- Strong sense of ethics and ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
- Superior interpersonal skills to interact with the management team and other company personnel, external advisors, other professional advisors and service providers.
- Ability to manage basic filing systems and databases, document management software and office productivity applications.
- Excellent writing skills, including spelling, grammar and punctuation for complex documents.
- Professionalism, responsiveness and a positive working attitude are essential
