CNC Machinist & Mold Maker

Jones Healthcare Group

Join Jones Healthcare Group - Where Innovation Meets Purpose!

Why this Role Matters

This role transforms technical plans into precise, high-quality tooling that supports our thermoforming operations. Through computer numerical control (CNC) machining, tooling assembly, and precision inspection, the CNC Machinist & Mold Maker helps ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of our manufacturing processes.

As a CNC Machinist and Mold Maker, you'll set up, operate, and maintain CNC machining and milling centres and use manual tools to build high-precision thermoforming tooling. You'll interpret technical drawings, finish and assemble machined components, inspect completed work, and make adjustments to ensure every tool meets specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

What You’ll Be Accountable For

  • Machining Setup & Operation: Set up and operate conventional and CNC machining and milling centres to cut, bore, grind, drill, tap, and shape tooling components to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Technical Interpretation: Interpret blueprints, sketches, models, and specifications to plan operations and calculate dimensions, shapes, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Precision Inspection: Verify dimensions, alignments, clearances, contours, and finishes using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Tooling Assembly & Finishing: Fit, assemble, adjust, deburr, and polish components to build, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools.
  • Testing & Adjustment: Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies, inspect results against specifications, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Machine Monitoring: Monitor automated machining operations and adjust machine parameters to achieve required production and quality outcomes.
  • Material Handling: Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks and safely lift, position, and secure machined parts using appropriate equipment.
  • Work Aids & Fixtures: Design jigs, fixtures, and templates to support efficient and accurate fabrication.
  • Equipment Care & Production Support: Complete required maintenance and machine-cleaning logs and provide support to production as needed.
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance: Promptly report food safety, workplace safety, violence, or quality concerns and follow all applicable ISO, SQF, GMP, and Health & Safety Management System requirements.

What You’ll Bring

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent on-the-job experience, such as an apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating and programming CNC machinery and making molds in a manufacturing environment, preferably in thermoforming, plastics, packaging, or tooling.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, precise part specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools, including calipers and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of fundamental machine codes or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and applicable quality and regulatory standards.
  • Experience operating HAAS automation is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and written instructions.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and manual dexterity.
