Position Overview
The Chef de Partie is primarily responsible for overseeing the preparation, assembly, cooking and presentation of food items for a specific kitchen station. The Chef de Partie plays a key leadership role within the culinary team, ensuring that food is prepared consistently and to the highest standards of quality, presentation and food safety.
The Chef de Partie assists with menu planning, inventory and ordering for their assigned station and contributes to the cleanliness and organization of the entire kitchen. The Chef de Partie works closely with the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs to maintain effective communication and support smooth kitchen operations.
The Chef de Partie will promote the Parq Vancouver facility and act as a positive role model and representative of Blau & Associates while continually striving for 100% guest satisfaction.

General Responsibilities
The Chef de Partie is responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking food items or specialty foods in collaboration with other culinary team members
- Liaising with the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs to ensure a high level of effective communication is maintained and participating in culinary initiatives
- Overseeing the assigned kitchen station and ensuring consistent, high-quality food preparation and presentation
- Ensuring food is prepared, garnished and presented in accordance with established recipes, specifications and proper plating standards
- Maintaining consistent portioning, quality and presentation throughout service
- Properly setting up and maintaining the assigned station, ensuring mise-en-place and par stocks are maintained for all position-related items
- Conducting regular inventory and assisting with ordering products as required
- Ensuring food preparation is completed for the assigned kitchen station and assembling or cooking items as required
- Supporting and guiding other culinary team members at the station to ensure smooth and efficient service
- Following established sanitation standards, maintaining a clean and organized workstation and assisting with cleaning of the overall kitchen and service areas
- Maintaining a composed and professional demeanor while providing exemplary service and leadership
- Being knowledgeable of menu items, seasonal features, menu and operational changes and communicating information appropriately
- Assisting with menu planning, recipe development and culinary initiatives as directed by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef
- Regularly inspecting food and supplies to ensure proper product rotation and safe food preparation and storage standards are maintained
- Protecting the organization, guests and co-workers by adhering to applicable food, liquor safety and workplace standards, operational requirements and statutory compliance regulations
- Ensuring that all property, furnishings, equipment and supplies are used according to proper instructions and intended use
- All other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef or their designated representative
Qualifications
The Chef de Partie must:
- Have at least 2 years of experience in a similar culinary environment, including a hotel, restaurant, catering operation or other fast-paced, high-volume establishment
- Have strong basic knife skills and a solid understanding of food preparation techniques
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and team-building skills
- Have a valid FoodSafe Level 1 certificate; a Red Seal certificate would be considered an asset
- Have an excellent command of both spoken and written English; knowledge of a second language would be considered an asset
- Have a solid understanding of different cuisines, cooking techniques and food preparation methods
- Have detailed product knowledge and the ability to effectively handle inquiries related to menu items, food suggestions, dietary restrictions, food sensitivities and allergy requirements
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication and customer service skills
- Have the ability to lead and support a kitchen station while maintaining high standards of quality, consistency and efficiency
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks during high-volume service
- Manage inventory and ensure proper product use to minimize waste and spillage
- Have detailed knowledge of the Vancouver area, including Parq Vancouver amenities, services and local attractions
- Be able to stand for extended periods of time and frequently reach, bend and stoop
- Be able to frequently lift and carry up to 44 pounds
