MATERNITY LEAVE REPLACEMENT | FIXED TERM

Northumberland Ferries Limited and Bay Ferries Limited are seeking a detail-oriented Learning & Compliance Coordinator for a fixed-term maternity leave replacement.

Working primarily with Learning & Development, you’ll support the Company’s training, onboarding, and competency tracking. You’ll keep training and certification records current, coordinate required training and familiarization, and flag gaps to the right operational and People & Culture leaders. This role provides the tracking and documentation needed to support compliance; operational readiness remains the responsibility of vessel and operational leadership.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain training and certification records for vessel and shore-based employees.
  • Track training completions, expiry dates, and upcoming requirements; flag gaps and potential compliance risks to Operations, Learning & Development, and People & Culture.
  • Support audit readiness for Transport Canada, occupational health and safety, internal reviews, and other regulatory or workplace matters.
  • Coordinate onboarding, safety orientations, and position-specific training for new employees.
  • Record and confirm completion of required onboarding and familiarization, and share status with Operations.
  • Administer the Learning Management System (LMS), including registering users, enrolling employees, monitoring course completion, and helping with basic access issues.
  • Data validation and input into company compliance software environment.
  • Schedule mandatory marine, safety, operational, and corporate training with Operations, Safety, and vessel leadership.
  • Coordinate course bookings, travel, accommodations, and training notifications.
  • Support the logistics for learning events, such in-house learning fairs (PORT Days), Train-the-Trainer sessions, and supervisory training.
  • Provide backup support to other People & Culture functions during busy periods and respond to employee questions about training and onboarding requirements.

What you bring

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, or a related field.
  • Two to four years of experience in training coordination, HR administration, or compliance tracking.
  • Experience in a regulated or safety-sensitive environment is an asset.
  • Data analytics and tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Confidence working with spreadsheets, data, and system reports.
  • The ability to balance competing priorities and work with people across different teams.
  • Clear, professional communication and sound judgment.

Position details

Term: Fixed-term maternity leave replacement, up to 18 months in duration
