Equinox is currently inviting applications for a Utility Operator to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.
Position Summary
The role of the Utility Operator is to support the Mine area Drainage team and operations through various activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that proper protocols are followed across various tasks within the Mine Operations team and for maintaining a safe work environment. We are looking for an applicant who will have great attendance, a positive work attitude, and a willingness to learn.
This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation day shift / night shift.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Be a courageous health, safety, and environment advocate, adhere to and promote health, safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures.
- Safety within the geographic area of active Mine areas.
- Operate smaller excavators, loaders, haul trucks, dozer and support equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections and completes daily Field Level Hazard Assessments for all activities.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently to meet production targets.
- Maintains equipment in good operating condition, reporting and logging maintenance requirements or concerns.
- Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment
- Report any required repairs or concerns to the supervisor.
- Complete production/drainage reporting and other documentation as required.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members
- Perform work on a rotational basis (i.e. day and night shifts).
- Actively participate in orientation and training programs.
- Conduct daily inspections of the work area.
- Ensure all water pumps and lines are operated safely as per developed procedures
- Utility work includes dewatering and mine operations support.
- Pit sump management, Pre-inspections and fueling on diesel water pumps.
- Manual labour, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Operate mining equipment as needed in a safe and efficient manner, perform pre-operational checks and regularly cleans, lubricates and refills equipment to ensure the equipment runs safely and efficiently.
- Surface mine labour support and other activities to ensure safe, efficient and productive surface mining operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or a significant amount of related experience in a similar role is required.
- A minimum of 3 years in a similar role is required.
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment, such as wheel loader, excavator, diesel water pumps, and Fusion Machine in an open pit mining operation is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a remote industrial environment is preferred.
Skills And Knowledge
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
- Excellent coordination and driving skills.
- Ability to provide mentorship, coaching and training to an apprentice.
- Strong knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety. Experience with radio communication and protocols. Excellent communication (oral/written) skills required. Strong team building skills.
- A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
