Job Summary
The Financial Planning and Analysis Manager (Manager, FP&A) is responsible for leading organization-wide budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
This position oversees the Senior Accountant, AR and AP specialists, and Accounting Assistant, and supervises the reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions for the department. This position leads the development and reporting on a $51 million budget for more than 40 programs with separate budgets prepared and submitted annually to two major funders.
The Manager, FP&A works closely with leadership and program managers to assess financial performance, support funding strategies, and ensure compliance with external reporting requirements.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Lead internal financial reporting, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and forecasting.
- Prepare and review external financial reports to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
- Analyze program financial performance and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, meaningful insights for financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Business Partnering & Strategic Support
- Act as a financial advisor to leadership and program managers, supporting operational and strategic decisions.
- Provide financial analysis for new initiatives, program changes, and organizational strategies.
- Support long-term financial planning, sustainability, and financial literacy across the organization.
Leadership & Financial Operations
- Supervise, mentor, and manage the performance of the Senior Accountant, AP Specialist, AR Specialist, and Accounting Assistant.
- Set priorities, monitor deadlines, and ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
- Act as Controller in the Controller's absence and provide technical guidance to finance staff.
- Oversee financial transactions, general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and monthly financial close processes.
- Investigate financial variances and provide coverage for core finance functions as required.
Audit, Compliance & Process Improvement
- Support external audits, prepare audit working papers, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Ensure compliance with ASNPO, funding agreements, regulatory requirements, and CRA reporting obligations.
- Improve financial reporting tools, systems, and processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and automation.
- Support financial system implementation and optimization, including ERP and reporting tools.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and undertake other duties and projects as required.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Advanced knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO).
- Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills, including the ability to identify variances, assess financial risks, and develop practical recommendations.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems, such as Dynamics GP or Business Central.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate actionable insights to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, staff development, and performance management skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence decisions across departments.
- Demonstrated commitment to integrity, confidentiality, professional ethics, and continuous improvement.
Experience
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in a senior accounting or financial analysis role, including a minimum of 3 years of direct staff management experience.
- Experience in a multi-department, multi-funding, high-volume environment.
- Experience in non-profit organizations is an asset.
Requirement
- Successful completion of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
Job Information
- Salary: $93,579 annually.
- Work Location: 601 Discovery Street.
- Work days: Monday – Friday.
- Shift Times: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
- Weekly Hours: 40 hours.
