About The Role
- We are seeking an experienced Director of Construction to provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for a General Contracting Division.
- This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing construction operations from pre-construction through project closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Reporting to the executive leadership team, you will lead Field Operations, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators while driving operational excellence, risk management, workforce development, and continuous improvement across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Provide strategic leadership for construction operations across the General Contracting Division.
- Lead, mentor, and support Field Operations Managers, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators.
- Build high-performing teams through coaching, succession planning, and performance management.
- Establish KPIs, accountability measures, and performance scorecards.
Project & Financial Oversight
- Oversee projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Monitor safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance across the project portfolio.
- Lead division-wide budget forecasting, cost tracking, and financial performance reviews.
- Validate project forecasts, cost-to-complete reports, labour tracking, and earned value metrics.
- Review significant change orders and claims before escalation.
Risk & Process Management
- Identify and mitigate operational and contractual risks.
- Develop and implement standardized construction procedures.
- Support pre-construction planning, resource allocation, and scheduling strategies.
- Lead high-stakes claims, disputes, and conflict resolution.
Client & Business Development
- Serve as the senior point of contact for major clients, consultants, and project partners.
- Represent the company at executive meetings and steering committees.
- Support business development through proposals, interviews, and operational planning.
Quality & Innovation
- Partner with Estimating, Preconstruction, Safety, HR, and Finance teams.
- Ensure safety and quality standards are integrated into all project phases.
- Conduct site audits and monitor quality benchmarks.
- Lead the adoption of construction technologies and digital tools across project teams.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive construction experience.
- 7+ years in senior leadership overseeing multiple concurrent projects and teams.
- Proven experience leading both field (Superintendent) and project (PM/PC) teams within a General Contracting environment.
- Strong knowledge of Lump Sum, Construction Management, and Design-Build delivery models.
- Expertise in scheduling, risk management, forecasting, cost control, and dispute resolution.
- Proficiency with Procore, Viewpoint Vista, and scheduling software such as MS Project or Primavera.
- Advanced understanding of Ontario construction law, OHSA, contracts, change orders, and permitting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid G Driver's License and willingness to travel to project sites across Ontario.
