Mechanical Designer

Position Overview

The Mechanical Designer will support the design and development of mechanical systems and components for complex industrial applications. This role is responsible for creating high-quality mechanical designs and drawings using 3D CAD and analysis tools while supporting projects through the full product lifecycle, from concept development and prototyping to testing and production.

Responsibilities

• Support the full mechanical design lifecycle, including requirements definition, concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production release.
• Produce detailed mechanical designs, models, and drawings for components and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
• Review and validate engineering drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Apply mechanical engineering principles, including structural, dynamic, and fatigue analysis, to support product development.
• Support prototype procurement, assembly, and testing activities.
• Participate in design verification and qualification testing to ensure products meet performance requirements.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies for demanding operating environments.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, weight, performance, and reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to resolve design challenges and support product delivery.
• Utilize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to manage product data, documentation, revisions, and configurations.
• Develop and track project metrics related to design performance and effectiveness.
• Apply drafting standards, engineering specifications, and industry best practices throughout the design process.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product design and development.
• Work effectively within cross-functional teams throughout all project phases.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of mechanical design or mechanical engineering experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience using 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA.
• Minimum 3 years of experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
• Experience taking products from concept through prototype, testing, and manufacturing.
• Strong proficiency in creating detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), including structural and fatigue analysis.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Science, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including stress, dynamics, fatigue, and structural analysis.
• Experience applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience designing sheet metal, machined, and welded components.
• Knowledge of machine design principles and mechanical systems.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting prototype-to-production development programs.
• Familiarity with vibration and shock analysis and design considerations.
• Experience designing equipment for harsh operating environments.
• Additional experience with advanced CAD platforms and engineering analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of drafting standards and engineering documentation.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality designs.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Interest in participating throughout the complete product development lifecycle, from concept to production.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
