Program Supervisor

Position Summary

The Healing Homes Supervisor collaborates with YCPs, other professionals, youth, and families to foster a healing process within the program and for individual youth via daily activities and tailored Healing Plans. They oversee the home's daily operations, manage cases for all youth, and handle personnel matters for the staff team. The supervisor adopts a strength-based, trauma-informed, relational approach to child and youth care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

TREATMENT PLANNING AND Implementation

• Works collaboratively with YCPs and other professionals to create Healing Plans that include specific goals and assessment strategies tailored for each youth, involving the agency social worker, youth, and family.
• Supports and ensures, through supervision, that Healing Plans are effectively implemented by the Youth Care Practitioners and the team
• Meets regularly with other involved professionals for the purposes of collaboration, planning and updating the Healing Plan and daily life interaction/interventions.
• Ensures that all activities, routines, and interactions align with the therapeutic principles, the agency's overall approach, and the individual’s Healing Plan.
• Provides supervision to the Youth Care Practitioners to ensure their actions and interactions with youth and families align with the Healing Plans and support overall healing and development.
• Ensures that the YCPs engage with youth and families using a strength-based, trauma-informed, developmental, and relational Child & Youth Care approach.

CASE MANAGEMENT

• Is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the interventions described for all youth, ensuring other professionals, youth, families and others' input into clinical aspects of Healing Plans for each young person and family
• Ensures that the referral, intake and discharge processes are conducted in accordance with Provincial and Agency standards and procedures
• Ensures that, in addition to Intake meetings, system meetings and Care Plan meetings are scheduled quarterly for all youth and that these meetings are chaired by themselves
• Ensures that all documentation is clear, accurate, professional and complies with Licensing, Program standards and The Link policies and procedures
• Coordinates communication with the placing agency, external collaterals and with other Link programs as needed
• Participates in hiring, supervises and evaluates all Youth Care Practitioners under their responsibility, in accordance with agency standards
• Maintains staffing to meet youth, family and program needs
• Provides support and guidance within the program as it relates to the youth and their Healing Plans to the staff team
• Ensures that the Youth Care Practitioners understand their job expectations and provides ongoing support to meet the expectations
• Provides mentorship and training/education to the staff in helping them to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work effectively with the youth

UNIT MANAGEMENT

• Creates and maintains, through the supervision of YCPs, a therapeutic and home-like environment within the program
• Ensures the physical maintenance of the home and its contents and property, as well as all equipment and vehicles of the program
• Ensures compliance with Residential Licensing, provincial program standards and The Link standards
• Contributes to the development of the program budget and ensures all decisions pertaining to purchasing are within that budget
• Ensures that the scheduling of youth care staff meets the youth and program needs
• Schedules and chairs biweekly staff team meetings focusing on unit functioning, team functioning and individual youth Healing Plans,
• Develops and maintains systems to ensure effective internal communication and documentation.
• Implements an on-call system that is reflective of program needs

CONTINUITY OF CARE

• Participates as a member of the Healing Homes Supervisor team; Works in consultation with other Healing Homes Supervisors, CCMs, Therapists and the Manager of Operations to ensure continuity and communication throughout, attends the Link All Management and Program Staff meetings and contributes to the overall functioning of The Link
• Ensures new staff members complete the agency orientation training as well as the orientation checklist as per licensing standards.
• Ensures that all Youth Care Practitioners are knowledgeable of, and comply with, all agency and program policies and procedures
• Is familiar with all Link Programs, activities and expectations and ensures that this information is distributed to the staff team
• Represents the Healing Home Program both within and outside of The Link
• Participates in Cultural Programming and ensures that the Staff and Youth of the program are encouraged to participate in cultural programming
• Participates in agency functions and encourages members of the staff team to also participate in these functions

ADMINISTRATION

• Completes all administrative duties in an efficient and timely manner. This includes all tasks relating to the youth, the house, and the staff team such as monthly attendance sheets, financial documentation, supervision documentation, and time sheets.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

• Participates in ongoing professional development through reading, attending workshops, and conferences.

Other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor, or as circumstances dictate, all within the context of The Link's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles as well as a strong and progressive customer service and community service orientation.

Qualifications

Education

• Human Services degree, diploma or certificate

Experience

• At least five years’ experience working in a group care program
• Demonstrated supervisory and program management experience

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• the ability to be an effective team member
• A working knowledge of systems theory, as well as being able to operate from a developmental Child & Youth Care perspective
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and resiliency-based frameworks for treatment and previous participation in competency-based training would be beneficial, and a willingness to complete the Supervisory Core Training.
• Knowledge of a CYC approach appropriate to the supervision of staff.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Circle of Courage is preferred
• Completed Daily Life Events (DLE) Training and DLE Supervisory Training is preferred
• Completed Therapeutic Crisis Solution Training is preferred
