About the Project

Trillium Rail Partners (TRP) is a consortium of Amico Major Projects, Alberici Constructors, and Acciona Infrastructure Canada, working closely with Metrolinx to deliver the Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE), a transformative 9.2 km expansion of Toronto’s light rail network.

The ECWE will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview

TRP has a current vacancy for a HeavyBid Estimating System & Quote Specialist wil be responsible for optimizing, managing, and maximizing our investment in HCSS HeavyBid software. This role focuses heavily on transitioning the company away from external spreadsheets by fully implementing HeavyBid’s built-in Quote Management System, automating folder workflows, and generating advanced bid-day reporting. The ideal candidate bridges the gap between technical database management and heavy civil estimating strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain automated Quote Folder structures within HeavyBid mapped directly to Local Materials and Subcontractor setups.
  • Build, test, and manage complex Quote Folder Combinations to evaluate multi-vendor, bundled, and lump-sum subcontractor packages instantly on bid day.
  • Leverage the software to monitor and track DBE/MWBE/SDVOB participation goals and vendor utilization matrices.
  • Review, clean, and standardize the Master Codebook, ensuring activity codes, production rates, and material resource structures align with field operations.
  • Establish protocols for breaking bulk materials within quote folders to accommodate varying vendor geographic pricing and specific activity demands.
  • Collaborate with IT and Accounting to ensure estimating data seamlessly exports to project management and ERP/accounting systems.
  • Develop and configure custom screens, user preferences (e.g., Additive Quantities, Client Number toggles), and batch report packages for executive review.
  • Use Crystal Reports / Power BI to build polished, Exec & client-facing quote proposals and advanced markup calculation dashboards.
  • Conduct "HeavyBid 101/201" internal training sessions to upskill junior estimators and other team members to ensure team-wide alignment on bid-closing workflows.
  • Draft HeavyBid manuals detailing exact protocols for quote entry, vendor selection and final bid locking.
  • Support tender preparation and submission for progressive design-build TPA stage
  • Participate in risk and contingency analysis
  • Track and update market trends in labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Provide input for project budgets, cost planning, change orders, and claims.

Qualifications

  • Advanced HCSS HeavyBid Mastery: Expert-level proficiency with a proven track record of managing multi-user database environments.
  • Advanced capability in configuring automated Quote Folder structures.
  • Complete mastery of HeavyBid’s Quote Folder Combinations and Combo Matrices to instantly evaluate and sort multi-vendor, bundled, or lump-sum subcontractor packages on bid day.
  • Familiarity with BIM/Revit/Civil 3D for MEP take-offs is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to coach, influence, and steer senior, traditionally minded estimators away from legacy Excel workflows and into standardized software practices.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing for complex projects.
  • Vendor/subcontractor engagement and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive problem-solving and team collaboration.
