Responsibilities

Control System Effectiveness

  • Act as a product specialist for Tempo CSE interfaces to customer control systems, historians, alarm and event systems, and other operational data sources.
  • Define and document requirements for new and expanded interface capabilities, and work with engineering through delivery, validation and release.
  • Understand the capabilities, limitations and configuration approaches of the DCS platforms Tempo supports and use that understanding to judge what is feasible, valuable and safe to commit to.
  • Form and argue a view on what the Tempo CSE release plan should proactively address in the upcoming quarters.

Requirements and product artefacts

  • Own product artefacts from definition through release, including epics, features, requirements, acceptance criteria, release content, readiness tracking and enablement material.
  • Prioritise the backlog using telemetry, evaluation results, customer input and SME feedback, and turn that signal into readiness, scope and trade-off recommendations.
  • Use AI tooling to build concept and validation prototypes, test assumptions, and de-risk decisions before commitment.
  • Partner with Product Managers, engineering and UX to anchor the user and technical perspective in delivery decisions.

Customer and SME engagement

  • Run workshops, discovery sessions, site visits and validation conversations with control systems engineers, process engineers, automation teams and operations personnel.
  • Act as a credible technical counterpart in customer conversations.
  • Support demonstrations, proofs of concept and product evaluations.

Portfolio and team contribution

  • Support Tempo Operations Management and Tempo Operating Procedures with operational domain expertise in areas such as operating procedures, permit to work, shift handover, management of change, procedure compliance and operational risk.
  • Identify capabilities, patterns and integration needs common to more than one product and input these into portfolio initiatives.
  • Contribute to the Technical Product Management team by sharing domain knowledge, supporting newer Technical Product Managers, and reinforcing team standards and practices.

Education / Qualifications

  • Five or more years of combined experience across process industry operations, control systems or automation roles and technical product roles such as Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, Business Analyst, or implementation expert, including at least two years with direct ownership of requirements, backlog and release artefacts.
  • Practical understanding of how a process plant runs, including operating procedures, shift operations, alarm handling, management of change and process safety principles.
  • Knowledge of industrial control system environments and how operational data leaves them: DCS architecture at a conceptual level, process historians, OPC DA and OPC UA, web APIs, and OT/IT integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold technical conversations with process control engineers and operations personnel and turn it into requirements and acceptance criteria that engineering can build from without substantial rework.
  • Strong written communication, with the ability to produce clear, precise requirements, release notes, customer-facing explanations and enablement material under time pressure.
  • Editorial discipline with AI-generated artefacts, assessing them critically rather than accepting them uncritically.
  • A degree in engineering or a related technical discipline is beneficial; equivalent professional experience in a relevant domain will be considered.

Ways of working

  • Takes on unfamiliar territory and reaches working competence without being taught.
  • Reasons about what a capability or feature is worth to a customer, including deciding what not to build.
  • Composure in front of an audience. Holds the message under challenge, whether in a customer session, a webinar or an internal review, and represents Octave well while doing it.
  • Works alone where that is faster and knows when to pull together the right team to get the job done.
  • Ownership and follow-through, with clear communication when priorities or trade-offs change.
  • Genuine enjoyment of the people side of the work, including collaborative problem-solving and a steady presence under pressure.

Favourable Additional Experience

  • Hands-on configuration or engineering experience with one or more major DCS platform, such as Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, Yokogawa CENTUM VP, Siemens PCS7 or Schneider Electric Foxboro.
  • A previous role as a control systems, DCS, process control, automation or OT systems engineer, or as a process engineer working closely with control systems.
  • Fluency in procedure management workflows, including authoring, template structure, versioning, approval, publishing, execution support and reporting.
  • Fluency in operations management workflows, including control of work, operator rounds, shift operations management and HSE processes.
  • Experience in or around multi-tenant SaaS product architectures.
  • Experience presenting at industry events, user groups or customer conferences.
