As Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Cold & Northern Regions Geotechnics, you will lead technical delivery and practice growth for infrastructure projects in northern and remote environments. You will be responsible for advancing AtkinsRéalis' capabilities in cold-regions engineering, permafrost engineering, peatland and organic soil characterization, climate adaptation, geohazards, and resilient infrastructure design, while supporting strategic growth across Northern Ontario and Canada. The role combines technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and team development.

Your role

  • Lead the technical delivery of geotechnical assignments for infrastructure projects in northern and remote environments, with a focus on safe, resilient, and constructible solutions.
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing, interpretation, and design for permafrost, peatlands, organic soils, geohazards, and climate-sensitive ground conditions.
  • Provide senior technical direction and review for foundations, earthworks, slopes, ground improvement, and other geotechnical aspects of multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and change while coordinating geotechnical inputs with other disciplines.
  • Build trusted client relationships, communicate technical recommendations clearly, and support the development of practical project solutions.
  • Lead and contribute to proposals, strategic pursuits, and practice growth across Northern Ontario and Canada.
  • Mentor and develop geotechnical staff, promote knowledge sharing, and strengthen cold-regions engineering capabilities across the team.

About You

  • Master'S or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Engineering Geology, Cold Regions Engineering, or a related discipline, with Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including significant technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing complex geotechnical projects and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cold and northern region geotechnics.
  • Strong project management and client relationship skills, acting as a trusted advisor and driving repeat business, with demonstrated ability to lead major technical proposals and strategic pursuits.

Additional Information

Expected compensation for this role is between $117,200 - $161,200 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
