This opportunity is open to junior, intermediate, and senior engineers. Depending on your experience and expertise, you will gradually take on increasing responsibilities and/or be responsible for leading engineering activities related to the implementation of security systems for large-scale projects serving private, municipal, provincial, and federal clients across Canada and the United States.
Responsibilities Based on your level of experience and autonomy, you will contribute to the design, implementation, modernization, and technical documentation of integrated electronic security systems.
Needs Analysis and Technical Direction - Identify and analyze client functional requirements, including recommendations stemming from risk and threat assessments, security studies, and existing functional and technical programs.
- Prepare conceptual documentation to support presentations to stakeholders, including security zoning diagrams, functional and block diagrams, equipment location plans, budget estimates, project schedules, and cash flow considerations.
Integrated Electronic Security Systems Design - Design, plan, upgrade, and document integrated security systems, including access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercom systems, and related software platforms such as electronic key management, reporting systems, and specialized applications.
- Develop solutions for visitor management, vehicle and pedestrian access control, biometric technologies, and emerging security solutions.
- Conduct site visits, gather relevant information, and develop engineering concepts aligned with operational requirements and site constraints.
- Develop integrated technical solutions that ensure seamless coordination between subsystems and support effective operation by security personnel.
Functional Spaces and Supporting Infrastructure Design - Design security operations centers, guard stations, equipment rooms, and other workspaces, with a focus on ergonomics, functionality, operational efficiency, and business continuity.
- Integrate supporting infrastructure requirements, including cabling, technical rooms, power supply, telecommunications, and redundancy strategies.
Standards, Codes, and Compliance - Apply applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements when preparing engineering concepts and documentation (for example: provincial requirements, electronic security standards, and client-specific project requirements).
- Ensure the technical quality and compliance of all deliverables.
Technical Documentation, Drawings, and Specifications - Prepare design reports, technical specifications, budget estimates, and other engineering documentation.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers in the development of technical specifications, contract documents, drawings, and tender packages related to integrated security systems.
- For more experienced engineers, lead and coordinate the work of team members involved in the production of plans and specifications, provide technical oversight to designers and drafters, and, where applicable and authorized by the relevant engineering association, sign and seal engineering documents.
Tendering and Project Support - Support clients throughout procurement and tendering processes by reviewing submissions, providing technical recommendations, and validating compliance with project requirements.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external clients to gather and communicate technical information.
- Participate in internal and external meetings as the subject matter expert in physical security.
- Support construction administration and site review activities by providing technical clarifications and information required for project execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligibility to obtain registration.
- Experience in the physical security industry is considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency in both English and French, spoken and written, is required.
- ASP Construction card is considered an asset.
- High standards of integrity, professional ethics, and discretion.
- Strong attention to detail and sense of accountability.
- Eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance (mandatory).

Pay Range
- Lower Mainland - Colombie-Britannique-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annuel
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
