Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at e4c’s Head Start program, serving children ages 2.8 to 5 years. The role performs routine cleaning, groundskeeping, and minor maintenance to ensure the facility and outdoor spaces are safe, functional, and well-maintained, supporting a positive environment for children, families, and staff.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday; 40 hours per week
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, with adjusted scheduling as required.
- Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning, custodial, groundskeeping, and minor maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility.
- Conduct minor repairs, assemble equipment and furniture, and coordinate building maintenance with the Program Manager and external service providers.
- Monitor building conditions, conduct routine safety inspections, and report maintenance, repair, and safety concerns.
- Support facility operations by overseeing deliveries, setting up meeting spaces, transporting supplies, and maintaining satellite sites.
- Maintain janitorial inventory, order supplies, and support accurate coordination of contracted maintenance services.
- Provide on-call support for facility security incidents and assist with emergency, health, and safety procedures in collaboration with Occupational Health and Safety.
- Provide direction and support to the part-time Custodial Assistant, participate in team meetings, and contribute to a safe, collaborative, and well-functioning work environment.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
- WHMIS
Experience
- 1+ year of experience in a custodial, maintenance, or facilities support role.
- Experience with commercial or industrial cleaning practices
- Experience performing minor building and facility repairs.
- Experience in an educational setting is considered an asset.
- Experience working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team is considered an asset.
