About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process on complex construction projects from concept through submission. This role combines technical expertise with strategic thinking, helping to develop competitive bids while identifying project risks, supporting business development efforts, and mentoring junior members of the estimating team.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced construction professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, building relationships, and contributing to the long-term success of a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating process for a variety of commercial construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates
- Analyze project scope, identify potential risks, and develop mitigation strategies
- Prepare preliminary schedules, execution plans, and resource requirements
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Support proposal development, bid strategy, and bid/no-bid decision making
- Monitor market trends, labour costs, and material pricing
- Mentor and support junior estimators while promoting best practices across the estimating function
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through new tools, technology, and process enhancements
Ideal Qualifications
- Diploma in Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Engineering, or a related discipline
- Gold Seal Certification in Estimating is considered an asset
- Extensive estimating experience with a general contractor
- Experience estimating large, complex construction projects
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and On-Screen Takeoff
- Familiarity with Revit BIM is considered an asset
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Strong leadership skills with a passion for mentoring others
