Position Summary

Spirit Omega's client is seeking a safety-focused and experienced Heavy Duty Equipment Operators to join our field operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment in support of construction, excavation, site preparation, maintenance, and energy-sector projects. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and teamwork in demanding field environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment, including:
    • Excavators
    • Dozers
    • Loaders
    • Graders
    • Backhoes
    • Rock trucks and other specialized equipment
  • Perform site preparation, grading, trenching, excavation, and material handling activities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and maintain accurate inspection records.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues, damage, or required maintenance.
  • Follow project specifications, work plans, and supervisor instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, industry regulations, and client requirements.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, labourers, truck drivers, and other crew members.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
  • Operate equipment efficiently while minimizing environmental impact and equipment wear.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, earthworks, pipeline, civil, mining, or energy-sector environments.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset).
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of safe excavation and ground disturbance practices.
  • Ability to read site plans, grade stakes, and work instructions.
  • Experience working in remote locations and varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ground Disturbance Level II
  • CSTS 2020
  • H2S Alive
  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • WHMIS
  • TDG
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work extended shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Capable of working in remote and industrial environments.
