Position Summary
Spirit Omega's client is seeking a safety-focused and experienced Heavy Duty Equipment Operators to join our field operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment in support of construction, excavation, site preparation, maintenance, and energy-sector projects. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and teamwork in demanding field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Loaders
- Graders
- Backhoes
- Rock trucks and other specialized equipment
- Perform site preparation, grading, trenching, excavation, and material handling activities.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Identify and report mechanical issues, damage, or required maintenance.
- Follow project specifications, work plans, and supervisor instructions.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, industry regulations, and client requirements.
- Work effectively with supervisors, labourers, truck drivers, and other crew members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Operate equipment efficiently while minimizing environmental impact and equipment wear.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, earthworks, pipeline, civil, mining, or energy-sector environments.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset).
- Demonstrated proficiency operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation and ground disturbance practices.
- Ability to read site plans, grade stakes, and work instructions.
- Experience working in remote locations and varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

- CSTS 2020
- H2S Alive
- Standard First Aid/CPR
- WHMIS
- TDG
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work extended shifts and overtime as required.
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Capable of working in remote and industrial environments.
