Residential Support Worker

Nurture Place is seeking dependable and experienced Residential Support Workers to provide direct care and supervision to children and youth in a structured residential setting.

This is a shift-based position only. Hours will be offered based on program needs and staff availability.

The successful candidates will support residents with daily routines, emotional regulation, life-skills development, behavioural needs, community participation, and the implementation of individualized plans of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children and youth in a residential setting
  • Support daily routines, including meals, hygiene, school preparation, appointments, recreation, and bedtime routines
  • Implement individualized plans of care, safety plans, and behavioural support strategies
  • Build respectful and supportive relationships with residents
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to behavioural escalations and crisis situations
  • Use trauma-informed and non-confrontational de-escalation approaches
  • Support residents with emotional regulation, decision-making, and life-skills development
  • Accompany residents to school, appointments, family visits, and community activities as required
  • Administer or support medication routines in accordance with program policies and training
  • Complete accurate daily logs, medication records, incident reports, and behavioural documentation
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and resident privacy
  • Communicate effectively with other support workers, management, service providers, clinical professionals, and family supports
  • Participate in required meetings, training, and case discussions
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized residential environment during assigned shifts

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed or be enrolled in a recognized program in one of the following areas:

  • Child and Youth Care
  • Social Service Worker
  • Developmental Service Worker
  • Addiction and Community Service Worker
  • Behavioural Science
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Mental Health and Addictions
  • Community and Justice Services
  • Nursing or another related human-services or healthcare field

A diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field is preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children, youth, or individuals with complex needs
  • Experience working in a residential home, placement agencies, community living, treatment setting, healthcare environment, shelter, or community-based support program
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental-health, behavioural, developmental, or addiction-related needs
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours calmly and professionally
  • Experience with documentation, shift handovers, incident reporting, and care-plan implementation
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, attachment, emotional regulation, and crisis prevention

Additional Requirements

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Crisis-prevention and intervention training
  • Broad Record Check
  • Valid G-class driver’s licence
  • Ability to work days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays based on program needs

Position Details

  • Shift-based and on-call scheduling
  • No guaranteed minimum number of hours
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Compensation is based on qualifications, experience.
