About the Role
The Estimator turns Genesis's opportunity flow into priced bids. Working under the Lead Estimator, this seat carries the day-to-day craft of estimating — quantity takeoffs, pricing buildups, subcontractor coordination, and bid-package preparation — across Genesis's project pipeline. It anchors Genesis's estimating presence in Alberta as the regional launch establishes operations. The role is remote in Alberta with quarterly travel to Kelowna headquarters, structured under a 90-day launch onboarding that builds toward independent regional bid preparation with Lead Estimator co-sign.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed bid packages on assigned pursuits, following Genesis's pricing methodology, templates, and standards.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs from project drawings, specifications, and consulting engineer documentation.
- Build labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost buildups using Genesis's pricing libraries.
- Read drawings and specs in depth; identify scope assumptions, exclusions, and ambiguities before they become commitment risk.
- Issue requests for quote to approved subcontractors and suppliers; evaluate returned bids and recommend selections.
- Field bid clarification questions from clients, general contractors, and consulting engineers on assigned pursuits.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs as Genesis's technical and pricing voice.
- Present completed bid packages to the Lead Estimator for review and final pricing commitment.
- Participate in post-close margin review to turn variance into methodology insight.
- Support bid-to-kickoff handoff with the regional Project Manager on awarded projects.

- Negotiation skills and sound judgment on subcontractor bid evaluation.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining communication discipline with head office.
- Dedicated home office with reliable high-speed internet; based in Greater Calgary preferred.
