Art Instructor (Neighbourhood Programs and Services)

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Art Instructors to develop and deliver engaging evening and weekend youth and older adult art programs, ensuring participants receive high-quality instruction and support. An ideal candidate will have experience in community-based art programs, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering creativity in a positive, inclusive and welcoming learning environment for participants of all ages, skill levels and abilities.

Programs may include a variety of art disciplines such as acrylics, mixed media, drawing, sketching, watercolors, pottery and other creative art forms.

Programs are offered at various times and may be scheduled during daytime or evening hours throughout the week or on weekends. The position will initially support one to three programs (2-8 hours) per week based on participant registration and program demand.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, and deliver engaging art programs that align with program objectives and participant interests
  • Demonstrate artistic techniques and provide clear instruction, guidance, and constructive feedback to participants of varying skill levels.
  • Foster creativity, self-expression, skill development, and confidence in a supportive learning environment.
  • Explain and enforce safety practices related to art activities, materials, tools and equipment
  • Gather, organize, and maintain materials, supplies and equipment
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and incident reports, and program documentation
  • Ensure supplies, equipment and workspaces are used safely, maintained, and stored properly i
  • Address participants' questions, concerns and needs, providing excellent customer service.
  • Act as a liaison between participants and the facility, promoting a positive and welcoming program experience
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum high school diploma and current technical and practical training in a specific discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of related experience in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, Studio Arts or a related field.
  • Experience providing instruction within a program setting.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
  • Be able to work flexible hours including daytime, evening, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the program.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Level “C” or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of visual art techniques, materials, tools, and creative processes.
  • Ability to plan, organize and deliver engaging, inclusive and age-appropriate art programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, along with strong customer service skills .
  • Ability to adapt instructional approaches to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, and experience levels.
  • Ability to foster a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment that promotes positive participation and community engagement.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
