Title: Wellness Navigator – Substance Use

Salary: $91,172 - $107,261 - $123,351 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: Term – March 2027

Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location: Kamloops, BC, located on the unceded ancestral territory of the Secwépemc Nation.

About The Role

The Wellness Navigator plays a key role in advancing the vision of healthy, vibrant, and self-determining First Nations children, families, and communities. Working within a comprehensive mental health and substance use system of care, this position supports individuals, families, and communities in navigating substance use, harm reduction, treatment, recovery, and wellness services. The role collaborates with community members, people with lived and living experience, health and wellness professionals, and regional partners to strengthen access to culturally safe, trauma-informed supports and services. The Wellness Navigator helps build awareness of substance use resources, supports regional toxic drug response initiatives, develops community partnerships, facilitates access to care, and promotes holistic wellness through prevention, education, harm reduction, healing, and recovery-focused approaches.

About You

To be successful in this role, you are passionate about supporting First Nations individuals, families, and communities on their wellness journeys and have experience working within culturally safe, trauma-informed, and harm reduction frameworks. You bring knowledge of substance use health, toxic drug response, recovery-oriented systems of care, and Indigenous approaches to wellness. Strong relationship-building, collaboration, and communication skills enable you to work effectively with community partners, health service providers, people with lived and living experience, and policing services to improve access to supports, services, and wellness resources. You are committed to reducing stigma, promoting healing and recovery, and advancing equitable access to culturally grounded substance use and wellness services.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Certificate in Substance use specialization and relevant experience
  • Naloxone training

Experience

  • Recent, relevant and significant experience in Indigenous harm reduction (usually acquired over a period of 3-5 years)
  • Experience with program development and workshop delivery
  • Experience working with Indigenous leadership, health professionals and communities
  • Experience working and/or interacting with youth, families and LGBTQIA2s+ individual
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours.

Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.

The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level. Internal employee compensation will be determined as per the FNHA Employee Total Compensation Policy.
