Role Description
The Circadian Group is seeking a full-time Construction Safety Officer (CSO) for a light-industrial construction project in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to the Site Superintendent and working closely with the project management team, the CSO will be responsible for implementing and administering Circadian’s occupational health and safety program, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements and project-specific safety policies. The successful candidate will be highly visible on site, proactive in identifying hazards, comfortable working directly with trades, and committed to maintaining a safe, professional, and well-organized workplace.

Key Responsibilities
- Implement, administer, and maintain the project-specific health and safety program;
- Conduct site safety orientations for workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and visitors;
- Perform regular site inspections and document identified hazards, deficiencies, and corrective actions;
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with Circadian’s safety policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, and applicable occupational health and safety legislation;
- Work closely with the Site Superintendent to immediately address unsafe conditions, practices, or behaviours;
- Maintain all required safety documentation, including orientation records, inspection reports, toolbox talk records, permits, safe work procedures, and corrective-action logs;
- Coordinate and document weekly toolbox talks and site safety meetings;
- Review subcontractor safe work procedures, hazard assessments, and safety documentation before work begins;
- Assist with the preparation and administration of fall-protection plans, confined-space procedures, hot-work permits, and other high-risk work requirements;
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage, and prepare detailed investigation reports with recommended corrective actions;
- Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment and site safety controls;
- Coordinate emergency-response procedures, drills, first-aid requirements, and site evacuation plans;
- Maintain current safety signage, emergency contacts, muster-point information, and required postings throughout the site;
- Liaise with WorkSafeBC officers, consultants, inspectors, and other authorities as required;
- Track safety performance and provide regular reports to the Site Superintendent and project management team;
- Promote a positive safety culture based on accountability, communication, education, and continuous improvement;
- Participate in project and trade meetings as required;
- Perform other duties necessary to support the construction team and maintain a safe workplace.
Qualifications
- Recognized Construction Safety Officer certification and/or National Construction Safety Officer or similar accreditation through a recognized training authority;
- Minimum three years of construction-site safety experience, preferably on commercial, industrial, or multi-storey construction projects;
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety requirements applicable to construction;
- Current Advanced First Aid (OFA Level 3) is required;
- Additional training in safety asset including but not limited to: WHIMS, CSTS, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platforms, etc. is an asset.
- Experience conducting orientations, inspections, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and safety meetings;
- Strong understanding of construction activities, equipment, sequencing, and common site hazards;
- Ability to confidently address unsafe work and enforce safety requirements with workers and subcontractors;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and consistent with documentation and follow-up;
- Ability to work collaboratively with site supervision, project management, consultants, trades, and regulatory authorities;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety-documentation systems;
- Ability to remain professional and solutions-focused in a fast-paced construction environment;
- Valid driver’s licence.
