Manager of Marketing, Communications & Events and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a one-year term position with the possibility of extension. The campus location, either Merritt or Burnaby, will be determined by candidate suitability. This position will commence as soon as suitable the candidate is available.
Job Summary
The Manager of Marketing, Communications & Events will be responsible for the overall leadership in the areas of marketing, communications, and events for NVIT. This will include the creation and implementation of the institutional marketing plan, ongoing internal and external communications including promotion, advertising, op-ed’s and press releases, as well as the overall management of NVIT events including graduation, student orientation and other campus-wide events. This individual will report to the Associate Vice President, Students, and works as a team member with the Enrolment Services department and will supervise the Events Planner and Communication Planner. The Manager of Marketing, Communications & Events will: demonstrate maturity and use initiative and judgment in handling designated matters on a daily basis; schedule and organize meetings (including agendas, minutes, and action items), and events, and, ensure confidentiality of NVIT issues; develop and maintain respectful and effective relationships with members of the institute administration, faculty, and staff; and representatives of other institutions and organizations including Ministries and Indigenous Leadership groups. The Manager must be extremely organized and capable of working independently.
Other Duties May Include
- Provide expert advice and marketing, communications & events support to departments and employees on policies and strategies including public awareness and educational campaigns, advertising, media relations, community engagement and digital and online communications.
- Evaluate effective use and continuous growth of digital and web-based tools including social media and the NVIT website to incorporate current industry trends.
- Assist in providing emergency services communications during emergency events.
- Establish and implement an annual work plan in line with NVIT’s strategic plan, including the development and implementation of short and long-term marketing strategies.
- Use available data to support asset development and campaign geo-targeting.
- Maintain and strategically evolve all organizational marketing tools and information services, including the NVIT website and print guides.
- Coordinate, liaise and work with government, industry, community organizations and other regional and provincial stakeholders as needed
- Prepare and manage appropriate budgets, reports, and proposals.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration or other closely related field of study with a minimum of five years related experience in marketing and/or communications strongly preferred; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- An understanding of Canada’s colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples.
- A strong understanding of the local Indigenous communities and Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
- Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens.
- Advanced skills in communication, technologies, professional editing and writing, publishing software, and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Understand and, ideally, have experience with integrated systems (e.g. Colleague or Banner) along with SharePoint and Learning Management System (e.g. Moodle) experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of marketing, media relations and issues management, including proficiency with website and social media tools.
- Express oneself effectively both orally and in written form. Effectiveness includes consistently communicating plans and activities in a manner that supports strategies for engagement while actively listening to others.
- Strong ability in writing plain language materials: taking complex and technical information and making it interesting and easy for a layperson to understand.

- Considerable experience implementing marketing, communications, and event plans.
- Additional experience in project management, marketing strategies and program development would be considered an asset.
- Ability to be creative and develop innovative plans and solutions.
- Demonstrated skills in team leadership and development.
- Skills in communication and presentation, especially the ability to prepare written reports and oral presentations.
