Summary

Tourism Red Deer is the Destination Management Organization (DMO) for Red Deer and region. We exist to grow the visitor economy in Red Deer, Red Deer County, and Central Alberta. Our goal as an organization is to position our region as the top major event destination in Canada among small - medium sized cities.

Tourism Red Deer is seeking a creative, organized, and digitally savvy Digital Marketing Specialist to join our marketing team. This position plays a key role in showcasing Red Deer as a vibrant destination through engaging digital content, website management, graphic design, photography, videography, and visitor-facing digital platforms. The successful candidate will take ownership of Tourism Red Deer's digital content and website presence while supporting broader marketing and communications initiatives. As a key part of the Marketing and Communication team, this individual works closely with our community partners and members, in promoting Red Deer and region.

Role, Responsibilities and Key Performance Areas

Website, Digital & Graphic Content Creation: (60% - 70%)

The successful candidate will lead Tourism Red Deer's digital content and online visitor experience by:

•Maintaining and updating Tourism Red Deer's website to ensure visitor information is current, engaging, and accurate.

•Managing visitor-facing digital platforms, including online passes, digital campaigns, forms, event listings, and other interactive tools.

•Reviewing, approving, and publishing community events to the online events calendar while proactively sourcing additional member and community events.

•Organizing and maintaining digital asset libraries, photography, video, graphics, and marketing resources.

•Capturing high-quality photography and videography at community events, attractions, member businesses, and partner locations.

•Editing short-form video content using Cap Cut, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar software.

•Designing creative marketing materials and branded assets that support Tourism Red Deer campaigns, events, promotions, and partner initiatives.

•Ensuring Tourism Red Deer's digital presence reflects current branding, marketing priorities, and visitor needs.

Marketing & Communications Support: (20% - 30%)

•Support content creation for social media, blogs, newsletters, promotional materials, and partner communications.

•Assist with social media scheduling, monitoring, community management, and responding to visitor inquiries.

•Stay current with social media trends, emerging content formats, platform updates, and digital marketing best practices.

•Contribute ideas for marketing campaigns, promotions, and destination storytelling initiatives.

•Support email marketing campaigns through content creation, formatting, scheduling, and distribution.

•Assist with the planning and execution of destination marketing campaigns, promotions, and tourism initiatives.

•Collaborate with internal staff, tourism members, partners, vendors, and stakeholders to help deliver projects on schedule.

•Provide administrative and project support for marketing initiatives, events, and partnership programs.

•Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to contribute to a wide variety of organizational projects.

Projects and Assignments, Marketing Research (5% - 10%)

•Works with internal team members and external members of Tourism Red Deer for planning and execution of projects, events and team assignments.

•Keeps abreast of digital technologies impacting marketing collateral & communication

•Researches and keeps informed on leading marketing trends and initiatives to apply to the marketing and communications plans of Tourism Red Deer and the members

•Research current events in Central Alberta

Qualifications

Education and Experience

•Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Tourism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or a related field.

•Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital media, tourism, hospitality, or a related industry.

•Experience creating content across multiple digital platforms, including social media, websites, email marketing, and digital campaigns.

•Experience maintaining websites using WordPress or a similar content management system.

•Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Cap Cut, or similar design and video editing software.

•Experience with photography and videography for marketing purposes is considered an asset.

•Experience with SEO best practices, website optimization, and digital analytics is considered an asset.

•Experience working in tourism, destination marketing, hospitality, economic development, or a membership-based organization is considered an asset.

Certification

•Valid driver’s license and proper insurance is required for using your vehicle

• Creativity and an eye for visual storytelling through photography, video, and graphic design.

• Knowledge of digital marketing, audience engagement, and current social media trends and best practices.

• The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

• A customer service mindset with a passion for promoting Red Deer as a destination.

• Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to build positive working relationships with members, partners, vendors, and stakeholders.

• May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time

• Must be flexible to work some nights, weekends, and holidays

• Local travel within Red Deer and region will be required
