Software Development Manager - Mobile Team

Cronometer

Location: Revelstoke, BC

Full time, Salary

Cronometer is the most accurate, comprehensive nutrition tracking app on the market. We empower people to make informed decisions about their health and wellness with data they can trust. With millions of users and a growing product surface across mobile, web, data, coaching, integrations, and professional use cases, we are building tools that help people understand what they eat, how they move, and how their habits affect their long-term health.

We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead our Mobile Development Team.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to manage tickets, run ceremonies, or stay safely away from the product. Our mobile app is the primary way most people experience Cronometer. It is where nutrition logging, subscriptions, coaching, device integrations, food discovery, accessibility, and product quality all meet. The person in this role will lead the team responsible for making that experience fast, reliable, polished, and valuable for our users.

You do not need to be the best Flutter developer on the team. You do need to be technical enough to earn the team’s trust, ask good questions, understand trade-offs, and help the team make better decisions. You should be comfortable operating in the space between people leadership, product execution, technical delivery, release management, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do

  • You will lead and develop a team of software developers working on Cronometer’s mobile application. You will help the team deliver high-quality product work while improving the systems, processes, and team habits that make delivery predictable and sustainable.
  • You will work closely with Product, Design, QA, Customer Support, Marketing, Staff Engineers, and other development teams to turn product ideas and customer needs into well-shaped, well-executed mobile experiences. You will help clarify scope, identify risks early, make trade-offs explicit, and ensure the team is not surprised late in the release cycle by missing requirements, unclear ownership, or avoidable quality issues.
  • You will own the health of the Mobile team’s delivery system: project planning, release readiness, PR flow, QA coordination, production quality, operational issues, and team capacity. Mobile releases are different from web releases: App Store review, staged rollouts, platform constraints, backwards compatibility, analytics, crash monitoring, and user-facing polish all matter. You will help the team operate with that reality in mind.
  • You will coach engineers through both technical and professional growth. That includes helping strong individual contributors take on more ownership, helping newer developers build judgment, and creating a team environment where feedback is direct, respectful, and useful. You will delegate intentionally, create space for others to lead, and avoid becoming the bottleneck yourself.

About You

  • You have 3+ years of experience leading software developers, either as an Engineering Manager, Software Development Manager, Tech Lead Manager, or senior technical leader with meaningful people leadership responsibilities.
  • You are comfortable managing experienced developers. You know how to create clarity without micromanaging, how to challenge people without creating defensiveness, and how to turn ambiguous concerns into concrete expectations.
  • You have enough technical depth to participate in architectural and delivery conversations. You may not write production code every day, but you can understand code reviews, release risks, platform constraints, testing strategy, observability gaps, and trade-offs between speed and quality.
  • You have experience delivering user-facing software. Mobile experience is strongly preferred, especially with iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native, or another production mobile stack. Experience with App Store / Play Store release processes, staged rollouts, crash reporting, mobile analytics, accessibility, or subscription flows would be valuable.
  • You care about product quality. You notice when technically “done” work is not actually ready for customers. You understand that polish, edge cases, accessibility, performance, and clear user flows are part of engineering quality, not decorations added later.
  • You are a strong cross-functional partner. You can work productively with Product Managers, Designers, QA, Customer Support, Marketing, and senior technical leaders. You can push back when needed, but you do it in a way that improves the decision rather than just winning the argument.
  • You are comfortable with change. Cronometer is growing, our processes are becoming more mature, and AI-assisted development is changing how software teams work. You should be curious about new tools and practices while still holding a high bar for correctness, maintainability, security, and user trust.
