About the Client
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a father living independently in his own home in St. Catharines. While his physical mobility remains relatively good, he is oxygen-dependent 24/7, which significantly limits his stamina and causes shortness of breath during activities. He currently receives government-funded PSW support three times weekly for bathing assistance, but requires additional private care to maintain his quality of life and independence at home.
Responsibilities
The caregiver will provide essential support with household tasks and companionship. Primary duties include light housekeeping and laundry, light meal preparation such as reheating meals and providing reminders, and assistance with grocery shopping or coordinating grocery deliveries. The client values getting out of the house and would appreciate a caregiver who can take him for drives to get coffee or simply enjoy a change of scenery. Support with mobility and transfers as needed, always being mindful of his oxygen equipment. The caregiver should also be comfortable helping with light tasks around the home and running occasional errands to the pharmacy or other locations.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who is calm and patient, reliable and consistent, and takes initiative when needed. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to clearly update the family on the client's wellbeing. The ideal caregiver has relevant experience working with seniors who use oxygen equipment and understands the limitations this creates. A valid driver's license is required for transportation needs. The caregiver should be English-speaking, bring positive energy to visits, and respect the client's independence while providing necessary support. Experience with mobility and transfer assistance is important.
Schedule
This position requires a minimum of 6 hours per week, structured as either three-hour visits twice weekly or two-hour visits three times per week. The schedule is flexible and can include weekends with no premium charges. Consistency is key—the family is looking for one dedicated caregiver rather than a rotating staff.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's life by helping them maintain independence and dignity in their own home.
