ACCOUNTABLE TO: HRIS & Payroll Systems Manager

Brief Overview

The HR Technician plays a critical role in supporting the operational efficiency of the Human Resources Department, with a dedicated commitment of 50% of the HR Technician’s time to supporting the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) centers in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and Regina once they become operational. This position provides technical and administrative support across multiple HR functions, including employee data management, payroll coordination, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and HR systems maintenance.

The HR Technician is highly detail-oriented, organized, and committed to accuracy. As a first point of contact for routine HR inquiries, this role helps ensure a positive, consistent, and service-focused employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update employee records and HRIS data with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR data and digital files to ensure accuracy, compliance, and completeness.
  • Prepare, verify, and submit payroll-related information, including new hires, terminations, leaves, and job or pay changes.
  • Coordinate with payroll to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Respond to routine benefits, and HR inquiries, escalating complex matters as needed.
  • Support recruitment processes by creating job postings, tracking applicants, scheduling interviews, and facilitating candidate communications.
  • Assist with onboarding by ensuring HR systems compliance and processes are adhered to.
  • Generate HR reports, support data audits, and maintain accurate HR metrics.
  • Support in the administration of employee benefits enrollment and updates, and track employee leaves with proper reporting capabilities.
  • Prepare HR documents, correspondence, forms, and maintain organized digital filing systems.
  • Coordinate training sessions, track completion, and maintain training records.
  • Provide general administrative and technical support to the HR team and Director of Human Resources.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of HR administrative processes, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, and employee record management.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS platforms, applicant tracking systems, and timekeeping tools.
  • Familiarity with employment standards, privacy legislation, and HR compliance requirements.
  • High level of accuracy in data entry with the ability to maintain error‑free HR and payroll data.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to audit information, identify inconsistencies, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ability to generate, interpret, and organize HR reports and workforce metrics is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, respectful approach.
  • Ability to provide clear and helpful responses to employee inquiries and escalate issues appropriately.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
  • Detail-oriented, process-focused, dependable, and proactive in improving workflows.
  • Customer‑service mindset with a collaborative approach to supporting employees and the HR team.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Certificate or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in HR administrative or technical roles is an asset.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms, specifically ADP, is considered an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
  • Must be willing to provide a Criminal Record Check.
  • This position may be required to travel >25% of the time between ELCC centers.
  • Physical requirements for this position require greater than 25% of the time sitting.
