Assistant Fire Chief

BASIS: FULL TIME, FOR A TWELVE-MONTH TERM | CLOSING DATE: JULY 24, 2026, AT 9:00 AM

This is anticipated to be a 12-month term position, with possibility of extension, to cover a leave. The Assistant Fire Chief works closely with department leadership, officers and external agencies to maintain readiness and ensure community safety through proactive and effective fire and emergency response.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief supports the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief in leading fire department operations, ensuring effective emergency response, fire prevention, training and day to day operations of the Fire Hall and Paid On-Call Fire Fighter crew. This role oversees safety protocols, training, and operational planning, working collaboratively with officers and staff to maintain high standards of public safety in accordance with the British Columbia Fire Services Playbook.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years firefighting experience, Class 3 BC Licence with air endorsement, EMA First Responder Level 3 First Aid (to be acquired within 2 years), and NFPA 1001. A combination of training and experience may be considered

Compensation includes an attractive salary range of $92,999 - $110,972, based on experience & qualification, and includes benefits such as Extended Health & Dental coverage, life insurance, out of country coverage and enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan (Group 2) when eligible.
