Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline is required.
EXPERIENCE
- 1 year of directly related experience, preferably in a hospital/medical setting, is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and equipment used in nursing required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite of programs and Apple computers required.
- Technical background and ability to setup, operate, troubleshoot equipment (AV, IT, and simulation technology) preferred.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and organization abilities are required.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
- Mature attitude with attention to detail and ability to complete assignments in the midst of distractions is required.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team is required.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily required.
- Ability to organize and maintain accurate records required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting required - maximum weight approximately 80 lbs.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

Key responsibilities
- Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to start of Sim.
- Meet with Simulation Facilitator at the beginning of the day to review the scenario.
- Communicate with Simulation Facilitator and simulation technicians throughout the day as necessary.
- Work in collaboration with the Simulation Facilitator and adjust simulation as needed.
- Be aware of schedule for the day.
- Keep track of time during scenario and provide time cues to Simulation Facilitators as appropriate.
- Turn on and off: mannequin, computer, and monitor screen, VR equipment.
- Assist students with fitting VR headsets, adjusting settings, logging into scenario, driving simulation on the computer.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly and correct scenario is running.
- Prepare (moulage) mannequin for each SBE.
- Have patient chart and any other needed materials (i.e., Drug Monographs, Prebriefed) ready and available to students.
- Ensure supplies that are needed for the simulation are available and set out.
- Ensure that correct drug monograph(s) is in Drug Monograph binder.
- Use SBE (Simulation Based Experience) document or Operator Manual (course dependent) to follow along with case.
- Transition mannequin to next state.
- Play the role/voice of the patient following along with SBE guide.
- Pull up PDF medical orders, diagnostic test results, etc. on the computer throughout scenario as appropriate.
- Ensure room stock is tidy and in correct place and adequate supply available.
- Clean up at the end of the day and prepare/setup for next group/event - leave the room neat and tidy - this includes making the bed and cleaning/emptying any liquids etc.
- Ensure microphones are off and cameras are covered during reset and set up.
- Daily work routine role and responsibilities conducted in accordance with simulation operator manual, orientation, and coordinator/facilitator guidance.
- Engages in professional, respectful, timely communications with members of the simulation team, CoN faculty, staff and students adhering to UM policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
