A unique and impactful opportunity that ties in with BCI’s recently launched (July 2) Investment Grade Private Credit Fund, the fund opens with $1.8 billion in direct co-investment commitments and a deployment target of $13 billion over three years.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Private Debt, the Managing Director is responsible for delivering consistent long-term value-added by developing and deploying active investment processes and strategies in public equity asset classes.
The Managing Director lead efforts in evaluating, negotiating and managing external partnerships. Further, as internal investments will constitute the majority of the fund’s AUM, the ability to source, assess and execute co-investments will be a critical function of the position. The mandate anticipates global sourcing with most investments expected in the US and Europe.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI's global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies.
WHAT YOU BRING
Must have
- 20+ years experience in the investment industry, preferably with an institutional investment organization
- Experience with corporate lending and/or asset-backed investing
- Strong fundamental financial analysis skillset
- Ability to work and excel in a team environment
- Ability to mentor or supervise junior employees
- Ability to hire appropriate employees to execute the program
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Effective decision making and negotiation skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with evolving mandates
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute on the business plan
- Oversee relationship management with strategic partners
- Communicate with clients on program progress
- Collaborates on investment opportunities and key information within teams in Capital Markets & Credit Investments and across BCI
Investment Analysis and Execution
- Directs overall strategy for the program
- Serves as the primary point of contact with external partners
- Identifies and evaluates co-investment or direct lending opportunities
- Synthesizes findings, key analysis and supporting documents in an organized and documented manner
- Leads a deal team, supporting the diligence of commercial, financial, tax, legal and ESG aspects of prospective investments
- Attracts, hires and develops talent to support the growth of the fund
Portfolio Monitoring and Oversight
- Monitors assigned investments identifying relevant opportunities and risks including: tracking/evaluating performance metrics, ongoing review against original investment thesis, ongoing strategic fit, significant changes impacting the company, valuation issues and industry developments
- Systematically develops objective and rigorous views on the long-term health and risk of companies within the portfolio
WHERE YOU WILL WORK
This role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC.
SALARY RANGE
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $240,000 - $300,000.
