Who are we looking for?
Natural Forces is seeking a candidate to fill the new role of Junior GIS Specialist to support our team members. This is a full-time position based at our head office in downtown Halifax that will require occasional travel within Canada. The primary objective of the role is to support the maintenance and enhance the organization’s geospatial processes. The primary responsibilities of the role will be to:
· Support the development of various renewable energy projects across Canada
· Assist with the identification of new project sites
· Manage the companies’ geographic datasets
· Review and understand federal, provincial and municipal legislation and policy related to developing renewable energy projects in Canada
Key Tasks and Duties
Mapping and Modelling
· Identify suitable new project sites using various software, such as ArcGIS, WindPro, Google Earth, etc.
· Produce maps to communicate the characteristics of project sites for various audiences and purposes
· Complete comprehensive constraint analyses for new project sites using diverse datasets
· Create preliminary project layouts based on constraint analyses
· Model and interpret sound, shadow, and visual impact assessments for new projects
· Conduct and interpret greenhouse gas reduction assessments for new projects
Geographic Data Management
· Assist in developing and implementing a geographic data storage and use protocol
· Procure and maintain GIS datasets from government and other sources
· Continually research industry best practices and innovative approaches to geographic data management
· Liaise with Esri staff to maintain our licensing and identify additional available resources
Other Duties
· Produce reports to communicate findings from constraint analyses and the identification of new project sites
· Develop an understanding of federal, provincial, and regional legislation and policy related to the development of renewable energy projects
· Assist with other activities related to the development of renewable energy projects, as needed
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
· Experience in excel, database management
· Experience with GIS software is an asset, but is not considered mandatory · Fluent in French
