Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the continuous operation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair of all facility equipment and structural systems. This role heavily focuses on industrial refrigeration within a fast-paced distribution environment. The ideal candidate holds a recognized trade ticket and is committed to continuous learning as technology and systems evolve.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Mechanical Maintenance

  • Refrigeration Systems: Monitor, maintain, and repair large-scale industrial ammonia or Freon refrigeration systems, ensuring strict adherence to environmental and safety regulations.

  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled PM programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of facility assets.

  • Facility Upkeep: Address general facility maintenance needs, including minor electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and structural repairs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate logs of all refrigeration maintenance and system readings in compliance with provincial/federal regulations.

  • Adhere to all GFS safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and confined space entry.

  • Participate in workplace safety audits and contribute to a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications & Skills

Required Experience & Education

  • Trade Certification: Must possess a valid

    Red Seal endorsement or equivalent recognized journeyperson ticket in a relevant trade.

  • Preferred Refrigeration Licensing: Operator license (or provincial equivalent).

  • Prior Experience: Demonstrated professional experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or large-scale distribution environment is required.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent diagnostic skills with the ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work in varying temperature zones (including freezers and coolers), lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
