Your Mission

Trusscore is seeking a talented team member to help us introduce to the world new architectural innovations for building products. As part of a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary R&D team, your mission is to help progress the technology and installation methodology for Trusscore’s Digital Paint. You will bring to life a new technology that instantly and digitally changes the colour of walls and ceilings - without the need for painting: https://trusscore.com/material-science/digital-paint.html

You will build concept-level prototypes of the Digital Paint technology and develop robust installation methods for contractors and homeowners. You will also collaborate with the R&D team to build laboratory test fixtures. Support the scale-up of Digital Paint from laboratory development to manufacturing. Your work will be instrumental in productizing the technology and bringing it successfully to market.

This role combines hands-on execution with collaborative problem-solving. You will apply your experience building, repairing, designing, renovating, and maintaining custom equipment and structures.

Desired Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology (e.g. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials), Materials Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience building, modifying, and maintaining mechanical test fixtures or prototypes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting and fabrication skills.
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and general shop equipment.
  • Experience with home construction/renovation
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and safe handling of materials and chemicals.
  • Basic understanding of materials science
  • Basic electronics/electrical wiring knowledge.
  • Experience with CAD software and digital fabrication equipment (e.g., CNC laser cutters, 3D printers).
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Comfortable performing light to moderate physical work in a laboratory and workshop environment.

Key R esponsibilities

  • Develop installation methods and procedures for Digital Paint.
  • Design, fabricate, and maintain R&D demonstration systems and testing rigs.
  • Assist with the development, installation, and mechanical testing of Digital Paint technologies.
  • Build and assemble laboratory test fixtures and prototype equipment.
  • Learn and apply relevant North American building and electrical codes to the design of the Digital Paint product.
  • Support manufacturing scale-up trials for Digital Paint.
  • Support laboratory maintenance, facility improvements, and equipment upgrades.
  • Operate and maintain fabrication equipment, including CNC laser cutters and 3D printers.
  • Collaborate with project and product managers, printed electronics architects, materials scientists, and hardware designers to evaluate trade-offs, make technical decisions, and support the product roadmap for Digital Paint.
  • Collaborate with the Electronics Engineer to select and design custom connectors that integrate conventional electronics with the Digital Paint film.

Work Location: Trusscore, Communitech Hub, Kitchener, Ontario

  • 4 days in R&D Lab/Office per week, 1 day work from home per week
  • Occasional travel may be required to support offsite activities with third party vendors, contractors, other Trusscore facilities, or for other business reasons

Compensation

$70,000 - $80,000/year salary
