SECURITY & DEFENCE AT A49

The landscape of national security and defense is complex, highly regulated, and constantly evolving. Our Security and Defence practice is recognized as a national leader in the optimization, design and engineering of high security infrastructure for the Canadian public sector. This requires a skilled blend of interpreting government policy, analyzing how it affects the security and defence sector and calling upon the collective expertise of a highly specialized team to create the ultimate in secure facilities serving all Canadians. This sector includes a broad range of building types including highly secure infrastructure for some of Canada’s most critical governments organizations, to buildings that house and service the newest of equipment to supports operations across the country.

Qualifications

  • Professional designation/education in a design/construction focused field.
  • 10+ years of experience, minimum 5 years working in the Security and Defence sector
  • Recognized thought leader in the field considered a desirable asset.
  • Experience in a variety of project delivery methods including IPD, CM, Modified Design Build, and Quick Response Tenders would be considered a desirable asset.
  • PMP certification would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in government procurement practices and procedures would be an asset.
  • Bilingual (English and French) would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

As the Regional Sector Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our Security & Defence projects within the Prairies and surrounding regions. You will work collaboratively with the Prairie Region Managing Principal and the National Sector Leader for Security & Defence to establish market growth within the region – targeting new client development that is aligned with the growth objectives. Additionally, in this role you will identify local client retention strategies and ensure that project specific goals are met and leveraged both regionally and nationally to help build the sector.

Business Rigour & Financial Accountability

  • Lead in the development and administration of the Security & Defence revenue/ project development to achieve A49’s financial goals and growth targets which will be set annually in collaboration with the National Sector Leader for Security & Defence and the Prairie Region Managing Principal.
  • Lead the development of net revenue forecasts for business development growth as per annual set targets.

Targeted Growth & Brand Enhancement

  • Build and evolve the Security & Defence sector in the Prairies and surrounding regions and act as a thought leader in the sector on behalf of A49 by speaking at industry conferences, preparing thought leadership pieces and conducting subject matter education sessions for staff.
  • Collaborate with other regional Security & Defence sector leaders/ National Sector Leader to prepare strategic plans to advance A49’s growth in target markets.
  • Develop, nurture, and maintain strong long-term client relationships, and identify and develop new clients.

Employee Engagement & Alignment

  • Demonstrate intentional capacity building, training, and mentorship of A49 regional Security & Defence resources to deepen knowledge in the sector and future proof the sector though succession planning.

Operational excellence and project quality

  • Review monthly operational data, marketing and business development initiatives, client/ consulting invoicing, work in progress and accounts receivable, overhead optimization, client/ colleague satisfaction and overall quality of work produced.
  • Lead major sector projects (as warranted) and provide professional architectural seal on drawings and contract documents if you are the supervising architect.

Prairies Region Leadership Team

  • As a member of the Prairies Region Leadership Team, provide leadership in the management and advancement of the Winnipeg office, helping to shape the vision, culture, and operational effectiveness of the architectural practice. Collaborate with regional leaders to establish and maintain practice standards, support strategic business objectives, guide staffing and resource allocation decisions, and promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and client service across the organization.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $124,900 to $167,800

MB & ON: $114,000 to $159,200

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $112,800 to $152,000
