Director of Content & AI Visibility

OneNet Marketing

Location: Victoria, BC (in office)

Type: Full-time

The way brands earn attention is changing fast. Search is becoming conversation, AI is becoming a discovery channel, and audiences expect content that feels human, not templated. We're looking for a Director of Content who's already thinking three moves ahead: someone who can pair sharp creative instinct with real command of SEO, AIO/GEO visibility, and social, and who knows how to turn all of that into a story clients can actually get behind.

We work with tech, entertainment, and travel brands that are rewriting the rules in their industries. This is a role for someone who wants to help write the next chapter of content strategy, not just execute the old playbook a little faster.

You have a high bar for quality. You move fluidly between data and wordplay from research to the perfect headline and you can distill a complex, multi-channel content plan into a confident client presentation and you see AI visibility as a discipline in its own right now, not a subset of SEO.

What you'll do

This is a client-facing leadership role. You'll lead the copywriting team and stay hands-on, contributing roughly 50% of your time to billable content strategy and copywriting.

Leadership & management

  • Lead and grow the copywriting department
  • Review and approve your team's work, holding a high creative and strategic bar
  • Partner with Producers to keep the copywriting team briefed, unblocked, and clear on priorities
  • Join P&L and Producer meetings to protect project margins and sharpen how the team works
  • Balance your own workload and your team's across 8+ accounts
  • Deliver annual reviews and manage discretionary team bonuses
  • Set and uphold the team's AI-usage guardrails. Gen AI can support research and process, but final copy is human-crafted
  • Join agency leadership meetings twice a month (some after-hours) to help shape how the agency aligns to AI in the digital marketing industry

Strategy & craft

  • Build data-driven website IAs using Google Analytics, heatmaps, and in-depth SEO research
  • Run content gap analyses and translate them into recommendations that grow both organic traffic and AI visibility
  • Design content strategies that work across search, AI chat, social, and email
  • Present strategy directly to clients, website, social, AI, and email content with confidence and independence
  • Write high-impact conversion copy: websites, sales decks, video scripts, ad campaigns
  • Partner with creative teams to keep brand storytelling sharp and consistent
  • Lead brand discovery sessions, positioning workshops, and client interviews
  • Ground every strategy in real research, audience, SEO, market, and competitive using tools like Google Analytics, Search Console, Hotjar, SEMrush, and Google Ads
  • Own an "AI visibility audit" process for client sites, identifying where brands are/aren't showing up in AI-generated answers, and why
  • Stay current on how major AI platforms source, rank, and cite content, and translate that into evolving content guidelines for the team
  • Advise clients on AI-era content structure: answer-first formatting, entity clarity, citation-worthy phrasing

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience as a Copywriter or Content Director in an agency setting
  • Proven experience managing people and owning strategy at a senior level
  • An undergraduate degree in English, Psychology, Business, or a related field
  • A portfolio that shows range: content strategy, messaging frameworks, SEO/GEO research, positioning research, and voice development
  • Experience shaping B2C and B2B tech brand messaging and positioning
  • Strong facilitation skills and genuine confidence in front of clients
  • A gift for turning complex tech products into simple, compelling narratives
  • Comfort using AI tools for research and analysis
  • Familiarity with GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) tools and emerging AI-visibility tracking platforms (e.g. Profound, Otterly, Athena, or similar)
  • Understanding of how LLMs retrieve, summarize, and cite web content
  • Experience writing copy directly in Figma

This role is a great fit if you thrive juggling multiple clients and priorities, love learning new accounts and new tools as the industry shifts, and want to work in close collaboration with copywriters, designers, and strategists.

This role is not a fit if you prefer a fixed routine, a predictable daily workflow, or doing the same thing every day.
