POSITION OVERVIEW
This opportunity is intended for post-secondary students completing a co-op, practicum, or experiential learning requirement as part of an academic program and is available only to students whose academic requirements and educational institution permit and support such placements.
If you are a curious, research oriented and community-focused student with an investigative mindset, accept diversity in thinking, and have an interest in bylaw and community safety, this work placement offers hands-on experience supporting key municipal infrastructure through the bylaw department. You will gain practical exposure to regulatory enforcement, community standards and decision making in a municipal context.

What You’ll Do
Support the Bylaw Compliance and Business Licensing Teams in a comprehensive review of the Business License Bylaw and related policies and procedures. Assist with cross-departmental and external partnership initiatives, including collaboration with Economic Development, Business Planning, and Strategic Policy.
Ability to support research, environmental scanning, and development of project materials, briefing notes, presentations, and recommendations related to Bylaw amendments supporting the business community in Maple Ridge.
Assist with the collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of relevant data to support improvements to strategy, performance measurement, and dashboard reporting.
Support community engagement and interest holder coordination activities by preparing meeting materials, documenting discussions, tracking action items, and assisting with follow-up on project deliverables.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to support research, analyze, and summarize information clearly and accurately to support policy, planning, and project development in a local government environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear documents, presentations, and correspondence for internal and external audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, partner agencies, and community interest holders on sensitive and complex community safety and wellbeing issues.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and an interest in data management, reporting, and dashboard development; experience with data visualization or analysis tools is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to apply these skills or quickly learn and develop them in a professional setting.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Enrolled in the second-to-last or final year of a program relevant to the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined in this posting.
No prior experience required.
HOURS OF WORK
Hours of work and duration of placement may be flexible to accommodate student work program, practicum, or educational institution requirements and shall comply with the applicable employment legislation (ESA), terms and conditions. Where the placement is working in a position represented by CUPE Local 622, terms and conditions shall be in accordance with the applicable Letter of Understanding.
