The Senior International Student Advisor (ISA) plays a critical leadership role in supporting international students and advancing UPEI’s internationalization goals. As a strategic leader and subject matter expert in immigration advising and international student support, the Senior ISA provides high-level guidance on immigration policy and compliance, ensuring alignment with federal regulations and institutional priorities.

This role collaborates extensively with internal and external stakeholders to shape institutional practices that foster a welcoming and supportive environment for international students. The Senior ISA advocates for international student needs across campus, contributes to policy development that enhances institutional resilience, and supports UPEI’s broader global engagement strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide expert immigration advising and compliance guidance to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring adherence to IRCC regulations and policies
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of international student programs, resources, orientation activities, and support services
  • Monitor and interpret immigration policy changes and provide strategic advice to university leadership on their impact
  • Foster partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, and professional associations to support international student success
  • Deliver workshops, presentations, and educational programming on immigration, cultural adjustment, and international student issues
  • Advocate for international students and provide support during academic, personal, health, legal, or crisis situations
  • Oversee the daily operations of the International Student Office, including staff supervision, service delivery, program coordination, and budget administration
  • Support recruitment, training, and performance management of staff, student employees, and volunteers
  • Identify emerging issues affecting international students and recommend policy, procedural, and program improvements to enhance services, reduce institutional risk, and support operational sustainability
  • Represent UPEI at regional and national committees, conferences, and professional networks related to international education and immigration

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; Master's degree considered an asset
  • RISIA license (or equivalent designation) required
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in international student advising, immigration services, settlement services, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian immigration regulations affecting international students
  • Experience working with diverse populations, preferably in a post-secondary or settlement service environment
  • Experience providing counselling, conflict resolution, mediation, or student support services
