Role Description
This is a part-time, ongoing intern position to support the molecular biology team. The successful candidate will assist with ongoing research and experiments done by full-time scientists. This entails completing reactions (acid/boil elutions, PCR/qPCR, agarose gel electrophoresis), prepping experimental setup, buffer and reagent prep, and basic stocking/lab maintenance. The role will also involve collaborating with the team to support peptide screening and cloning pipelines.
Duties
- Perform basic laboratory procedures including preparation/analysis of samples by PCR/qPCR, buffer and reagent prep, agarose gel electrophoresis, bacterial culture prep, and solution calibrations.
- Assist with experimental setup and processing for biopanning and cloning workflows.
- Provide general lab support including stocking, washing glassware, autoclaving, cleaning work stations and waste disposal.
- Keep a detailed lab notebook and communicate progress to senior scientists.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate student in their final year of study or recent BSc graduate in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or related field.
- Demonstrated experience performing qPCR, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
- Experience performing Flow Cytometry, ELISA, and cloning considered an asset.
- Experience with sterile and aseptic technique (Bacterial/cell culture work is a plus).
- Experience conducting experiments and analyzing scientific data.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a laboratory setting.
- Flexible availability for daytime and evening shifts, including ability to come in on short notice.
