Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHTH) is a national registered charity that specializes in coordinating and executing one-day Pro-Am hockey tournaments where men and women get a chance to play with NHL Alumni and Olympians and raise funds to address the needs of the estimated 250,000 people who will experience homelessness in Canada every year. Timing and Compensation

Start Date: Tuesday, September 8th, 2026

End Date: Friday, December 18th, 2026

Compensation: Up to $2500 performance based per diem to be offered at the conclusion of the term.

Event Operations Intern Job Overview

Looking for hands on hockey industry experience? Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHTH) is currently seeking a highly motivated, energetic individual to serve as the organization’s Events Operations Intern. This position will report directly to the Manager of Operations and will be responsible for pre-event tournament planning, player support, and the coordination and on-site logistics of the organization's large-scale fundraiser tournaments. This position is a hybrid model, where interns are expected to work in office 2-3 days each week. Lots of travel opportunities!

Travel Opportunities

  • Within Ontario: Waterloo, Kingston, Newmarket
  • Outside Ontario: Halifax, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

Participant Liaison:

  • A lead point of contact and support for participants and donors online and on-site.
  • Assist with team registrations, including collecting sponsor logos and team jersey choices.
  • Communicate tournament schedules, rule updates, venue information, and event logistics.
  • Assist with participant and volunteer registrations, resending donor tax receipts, and more.

Operations and Tournament Support:

  • Management and oversight of all tournament rosters.
  • Schedule key event day components including games schedule, referees, volunteers, etc.
  • Jersey coordination support including logo collection and design.
  • Collaborate on recruitment marketing and sales tools for use in tournament markets.
  • Packing/shipping of event supplies.

Event Day Logistics:

  • Develop, monitor, and execute comprehensive event day logistics plan including set up and tear down.
  • Work collaboratively with event volunteers to ensure execution of all tournament logistics.
  • Act as on-site HHTH logistics and quality control representative at all HHTH events if applicable.
  • Monitors standards and guidelines to maintain brand integrity at all events.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Working towards a Post-secondary degree or diploma (Sport Management and/or Event Marketing an asset).
  • Strong communication skills (French speaking is a strong asset).
  • Time and project management skills essential.
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to manage multiple projects with short timelines and an understanding of information systems.
  • Attention to detail (previous experience with data entry and fundraising databases an asset).
  • Proficient with all MS applications and Canva.
  • Takes actions independently or in conjunction with others, as appropriate.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently but also collaboratively with senior staff.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, both in office and on-site for events.
  • Able/willing to work late nights and early mornings.
  • Experience working in events and/or hockey is a plus. i.e., Referee/Timekeeping experience.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle.
