Role Description
The Junior Instructional Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Halifax, NS. This role supports the design and development of interactive training content and simulations for defense and industrial clients. Day-to-day tasks include conducting learning needs assessments, assisting in curriculum and courseware design, developing storyboards and scripts, and aligning training materials with learning objectives and industry standards. The Junior Instructional Designer collaborates with senior designers, subject matter experts, and developers to build engaging, learner-centered experiences across classroom, e-learning, and VR/AR environments. The role also involves reviewing and updating existing training materials, supporting learning management processes, and contributing to documentation and quality assurance activities.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform Needs Analysis and contribute to Learning Management activities to align training solutions with organizational goals.
- Foundational skills in Instructional Design and Curriculum Development to create structured, learner-focused training materials.
- Interest or experience in Training & Development to support delivery and continuous improvement of blended learning programs.
- Strong written and visual communication skills for storyboarding, scripting, and documentation.
- Comfort working with digital tools and learning technologies; familiarity with e-learning or simulation environments is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Human Factors, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, take feedback constructively, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to meet any security or project-specific clearance requirements, if applicable.
