Senior Emergency Vehicle Upfitting Sales Consultant
Dependable Emergency Vehicles
Dependable Emergency Vehicles | Brampton, Ontario
Full-Time | On-Site / Field-Based
Reports to: DEV Management
Dependable Emergency Vehicles is a Canadian manufacturer and provider of fire and emergency vehicle solutions. We are expanding our upfitting division and are seeking an experienced, technically capable Emergency Vehicle Upfitting Sales Representative.
This is not an entry-level sales role. We are looking for someone who already understands emergency vehicles, commercial vehicles, fleet equipment, technical vehicle accessories, or upfitting projects—and who can confidently speak with customers about operational needs, equipment options, installation requirements, and project scope.
The successful candidate will have a proven background in technical sales, vehicle equipment, fleet solutions, truck accessories, emergency vehicle upfitting, or a closely related industry.
The Role
The Emergency Vehicle Upfitting Sales Representative will be responsible for developing new business, managing customer relationships, quoting projects, and guiding customers through the full upfitting sales process.
You will work with fire departments, municipalities, police services, EMS organizations, fleet managers, contractors, dealers, and commercial customers to identify vehicle and equipment requirements and provide practical, dependable solutions.
Projects may include emergency lighting, warning systems, communications equipment, cabinetry, storage systems, command units, vehicle modifications, equipment mounting, graphics, accessories, and other emergency or commercial vehicle upgrades.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and manage sales opportunities for emergency vehicle upfitting, commercial vehicle modifications, fleet equipment, and related installations.
- Build strong relationships with fire departments, police services, EMS organizations, municipalities, fleet managers, commercial customers, contractors, and dealers.
- Conduct customer meetings, vehicle walkarounds, site visits, demonstrations, and detailed discovery discussions.
- Assess customer needs and recommend practical equipment, layout, installation, storage, lighting, communications, or vehicle-modification solutions.
- Prepare accurate quotes, scopes of work, proposals, product recommendations, and project documentation.
- Work closely with internal service, parts, production, engineering, and management teams to confirm pricing, lead times, product compatibility, installation requirements, and project feasibility.
- Manage opportunities from first inquiry through quoting, approval, scheduling, installation, delivery, and post-sale follow-up.
- Generate new business through targeted outreach, customer visits, referrals, industry relationships, trade shows, and account development.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, customer activity, quote status, sales opportunities, next steps, and forecast information.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across DEV’s apparatus, service, parts, fleet support, and equipment offerings.
- Support public-sector purchasing opportunities, including RFQs, tenders, quotes, fleet planning discussions, and municipal budget cycles.
- Provide regular pipeline, sales forecast, project-status, and market-feedback updates to DEV Management.
- Represent Dependable Emergency Vehicles professionally at customer meetings, trade shows, industry events, and dealer functions.
Required Experience and Qualifications
Applicants must have
- A minimum of five years of proven B2B sales experience in a technical, equipment-based, vehicle-based, fleet, truck, automotive, industrial, or emergency-services environment.
- A minimum of two years of directly relevant experience selling or supporting vehicle upfitting, emergency vehicle equipment, commercial truck equipment, fleet accessories, lighting, communications, storage systems, vehicle modifications, or technical installation projects.
- Experience preparing detailed quotes and managing projects with multiple components, lead times, product options, and installation requirements.
- A demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and translate those needs into accurate, practical product or project recommendations.
- Strong customer-service, relationship-building, presentation, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Experience using CRM systems, quoting platforms, or sales tracking tools.
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel for customer meetings, vehicle assessments, trade shows, and project-related visits.
Preferred Qualifications
The following will be considered strong assets:
- Direct experience with emergency vehicle upfitting, fire apparatus equipment, police vehicles, EMS units, municipal fleets, commercial trucks, service bodies, or vocational vehicles.
- Working knowledge of emergency lighting, warning systems, vehicle electronics, communications equipment, storage systems, cabinetry, equipment mounting, graphics, or fleet accessories.
- Existing relationships within fire departments, police services, EMS organizations, municipalities, fleet operations, vehicle dealerships, contractors, or commercial truck markets.
- Experience responding to public-sector RFQs, municipal quotes, tenders, fleet requirements, or procurement requests.
- Technical aptitude and the ability to confidently discuss installation requirements, vehicle limitations, equipment compatibility, and project timelines.
Who Will Be Successful in This Role
The right candidate is already familiar with selling technical vehicle solutions and understands that accurate scoping, communication, and follow-through are critical.
You are comfortable speaking with customers about their vehicle requirements, asking the right questions, preparing detailed quotes, coordinating internal teams, and taking ownership of opportunities until the project is complete.
