POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources and Regulatory Services, the Health and Safety Specialist serves as the City’s subject matter advisor on occupational health, safety, and wellness, and leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the City’s Corporate Health and Safety Program. Working as a trusted advisor to directors, managers, and supervisors, the Specialist partners with each department on their individual safety plans and champions a proactive safety culture that integrates physical safety, psychological safety, and injury prevention into

day-to-day operations. The Specialist’s work results in a stronger safety culture across the City, measurable reductions in workplace incidents, and assurance that employees thrive in a secure and supportive environment.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related health and safety experience, preferably within a unionized municipal or public sector environment.
  • Experience with health and safety management systems and regulatory compliance in British Columbia.
  • In-depth knowledge of WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC regulations.
  • Familiarity with safety practices in public works, utilities, electric utility operations, and fire services.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE

  • Permanent, full time: 37.5 hour per week
  • On site, with flexibility in remote work.

COMPENSATION: $102,394 - $113,771
