Business Analyst II
Affinity
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Business Analyst to support the development of new public-facing functionality and the integration with PETL’s existing internal Student Financial Services application.
This application is currently supported by a Senior Developer/Application Lead with extensive knowledge of the existing application suite, one developer, and two client subject matter experts. This position will report to the Manager of Business Application Services.
Deliverables
- Functional & Non-Functional Requirements, including definition and documentation of system needs
- User Stories creation and backlog support within Agile environments
- Wireframes / Screen Mock-ups for solution design visualization
- Requirements Traceability Matrix development to map business and system requirements
- Test Cases authoring and contribution to test plans and execution
- Assessment of procurement considerations in alignment with procurement policies
- Support software development team through requirements clarification and collaboration
- Support reporting activities using project data, including status tracking and insights
- Elicit and document requirements, analyze business functions, and define goals in collaboration with stakeholders
- Identify business workflows and determine stakeholder needs across functional areas
- Contribute to Agile practices including ceremonies, backlog refinement, and continuous delivery
Required Qualifications
- University Degree or Post-Secondary diploma in IT or equivalent program
- 8+ years of IM/IT experience in design, development, maintenance, or analysis of business applications
- 3–5 years of experience working as a Business Analyst
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills
Scored Qualifications
- 5+ years facilitating requirements gathering (remote or in-person), including current/future state analysis in large, complex enterprise projects
- 5+ years documenting business/application processes, creating process flows, and defining system interfaces (internal and external)
- 5+ years developing requirements traceability matrices, product backlogs, user stories, wireframes, acceptance criteria, and supporting UAT
- 5+ years conducting business process analysis for complex transformation initiatives and managing cross-functional stakeholders
- 5+ years demonstrating strong communication and collaboration with business and technical teams in team-based environments
- Certified in business analysis (e.g., PMI-PBA, IIBA-CBAP) – required certification in good standing
- 5+ years using SAFe, Agile, or similar methodologies (within the last 10 years)
- 3+ years using Azure DevOps (within the last 7 years)
- 3+ years designing user interfaces for mobile-responsive web applications
- 3+ years collecting, consolidating, and analyzing project data for reporting, dashboards, KPIs, and executive summaries
- 3+ years experience in Student Financial Services domain (within the last 7 years)
- 3+ years experience as a Business Analyst in the Canadian Public Sector (within the last 7 years)
