About the Role
The Programming and Community Engagement Coordinator supports the success of library programming initiatives by leading their promotion across a variety of platforms and leveraging technology to enhance accessibility, visibility, and community awareness.
Reporting to the Manager of Library Programs and User Experience, this role plays a key part in developing engaging programs, strengthening community connections, and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
Work Schedule
Monday to Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
One Sunday per month
Up to three evenings per month
Responsibilities
General Duties
- Stay current with trends in social media and multimedia platforms.
- Develop and implement library marketing strategies.
- Plan, organize, and deliver a variety of programs and events.
- Provide excellent customer service at service points in accordance with library standards.
- Respond to patron inquiries and resolve issues effectively.
Marketing and Communications
- Maintain and grow the library’s presence on social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube).
- Create and distribute the library newsletter.
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote programs and services.
- Communicate the value of library services to the community using diverse tools and channels.
- Identify innovative approaches to promote the library using digital and technological tools.
- Establish measurable objectives to evaluate marketing initiatives.
- Assist in preparing promotional materials and program schedules.
- Ensure website content is accurate, current, and engaging.
Multimedia
- Capture photos of programs and events for promotional use.
- Live stream selected programs and events.
- Host virtual programs (e.g., Zoom) and manage all technical aspects.
- Operate sound and video equipment as required.
- Conduct technical checks (sound, lighting, equipment) prior to events.
Programs and Events
- Survey residents to identify community interests and evaluate program needs.
- Analyze feedback and prepare reports on program effectiveness.
- Assist with planning, coordination, and booking of programs.
- Liaise with speakers and presenters; host and introduce events.
- Maintain the library program calendar.
- Lead programs aligned with individual expertise and skills.
Administrative Duties
- Collect and maintain statistics.
- Prepare statistical and narrative reports.
- Manage phone and email communications as required.
- Participate in management meetings.
Management Responsibilities
- Contribute as an active member of the management team.
- Oversee and coordinate specialized services and service delivery.
- Evaluate services and recommend improvements.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures.
- Ensure service quality and productivity standards are maintained.
- Oversee operations in the absence of other managers.
- Support facility oversight and security when required.
- Recruit, supervise, and train staff, students, volunteers, or interns as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Information Studies.
- Certificate, diploma, or experience in marketing and/or communications (asset).
- Experience in the cultural or public sector (asset).
- Experience in digital marketing, social media, and multimedia tools.
- Experience in public libraries (asset).
- Demonstrated creativity and initiative.
- Fluency in French and English (spoken and written).

Candidates may be required to complete a competency test in both French and English.
