POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple Ridge is currently seeking Election Supervisors for the 2026 General Local Election on Saturday, October 17, 2026, as well as for advance voting opportunities between October 7 and October 15, 2026. In this important leadership role, you will help deliver a smooth, accessible, and well-organized voting experience that supports the integrity of the local election process. Presiding Election Official are responsible for
Supervising the setting up and closing of the voting place;
Supervising election officials and general conduct of the voting place; ensuring all tasks are completed properly; ensuring compliance with election procedures and rules in the voting place;
Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public;
Picking up equipment and supplies from election headquarters on the day before general voting day and delivering back to election headquarters at the close of voting; setting up and closing the vote tabulator;
Maintaining contact with election headquarters throughout the day;
Performing duties of Election Officials as required.
Deputy Presiding Election Official are responsible for
Supervising the setting up and closing of the voting place;
Supervising election officials and general conduct of the voting place; ensuring all tasks are completed properly; ensuring compliance with election procedures and rules in the voting place;
Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public;
Operating the vote tabulator throughout the day;
Maintaining contact with election headquarters throughout the day;
Performing duties of Election Officials as required.
Advanced Presiding Election Official are responsible for
Supervising the setting up and closing of the voting place;
Supervising election officials and general conduct of the voting place; ensuring all tasks are completed properly; ensuring compliance with election procedures and rules in the voting place;
Dealing tactfully and courteously with the public;
Picking up equipment and supplies from election headquarters the day before and delivering back to election headquarters at the close of voting; setting up and closing the vote tabulator;
Operating the vote tabulator throughout the day;
Maintaining contact with election headquarters throughout the day;
Performing duties of Election Officials as required.
ELECTION WORKER REQUIREMENTS
Must be responsible for their own transportation to and from the voting place
Attend a mandatory training session
WORKING CONDITIONS
Can not leave the voting place during shift
Must provide own non-perishable meals and beverages. Supervisors may not have access to microwaves and refrigerators;
Able to sit or stand for long periods of time during the workday (approximately 14 hours);
Working all day in a school gym or Community Hall;
May want to bring cushion to sit on and layers of clothing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written English communication skills; the ability to interact with voters and clearly communicate election procedures; the ability to understand and follow written instructions and checklists; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; proficient computer skills.
Knowledge of and experience with the election process will be considered an asset.
HOURS OF WORK
Approximately 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. or until duties are fulfilled on General Voting Day. There will be a mandatory 2-hour training session at a time to be scheduled October 1-2, 2026. Payment for time worked will be on October 30, 2026, via direct deposit.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please note that if you work on the election, 10% income tax will be deducted and a T4 slip will be issued next February 2027 and mailed to your address on file.
Please note that those under the age of 18 and over the age of 70 are exempt from CPP.
