Position Details

The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Fine Arts is accepting applications for a full-time, continuing Head of Wardrobe position commencing August 4, 2026. The Head of Wardrobe plays a key role leading the planning, construction, fitting, maintenance, and coordination of costumes for Drama productions while supporting costume needs for other Faculty activities. This position collaborates closely with faculty, directors, designers, students, and technical staff to bring productions to the stage through creative problem-solving, technical expertise, and exceptional craftsmanship.

Working in a highly collaborative production environment, the Head of Wardrobe interprets costume designs, develops construction plans, prepares material estimates, sources fabrics and supplies, constructs and alters costumes, and oversees costume fittings throughout the production process. The position also maintains the University’s costume collection, costume shop equipment, and studio spaces, while coordinating costume rentals and ensuring safe work practices within the shop.

As an integral member of the Faculty’s technical team, the Head of Wardrobe provides technical instruction and mentorship to students participating in productions and academic courses. The successful candidate will foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment while balancing multiple productions, competing priorities, and tight deadlines in an educational theatre setting.

Position Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Theatre Production, Costume Design, Technical Theatre, Fashion Design, or a related discipline, combined with 2-5 years of experience in costume construction and theatrical production. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated expertise in costume construction, historical costume construction, pattern drafting, draping, alterations, fittings, textile selection, costume history, dyeing, distressing, and adapting garments for theatrical performance.
Proven ability to interpret costume renderings, prepare material and labour estimates, coordinate multiple production schedules, maintain costume inventories, and work effectively within established production budgets.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a commitment to mentoring students, supporting inclusive learning environments, and working successfully with faculty, staff, guest designers, and the broader theatre production team.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$4,772.00 - $5,403.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE)

$4,772.00 - $6,034.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 11)
