Junior Civil Engineer – Water Resources & Hydrology

We are seeking a motivated Junior Civil Engineer with a focus on Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering to join our growing team.

In this role, you will contribute to a diverse range of projects involving hydrological and hydraulic analysis, flood assessments, infrastructure design, forensic investigations, and expert support for legal proceedings. You will work alongside experienced specialists on technically challenging projects while continuing to develop your professional and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct hydrological analyses to assess water availability, watershed response, and flood risk.
  • Perform channel and pipe hydraulic calculations for water conveyance systems.
  • Develop and apply numerical hydraulic models to simulate flow conditions in rivers, channels, culverts, and pipe networks.
  • Conduct hydrological modelling to evaluate watershed behaviour under various scenarios.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, analyses, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Assist with forensic engineering investigations related to legal disputes and insurance claims.
  • Conduct field reviews and site inspections to verify design assumptions and site conditions.
  • Prepare technical sketches, drawings, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on water resource management, flood mitigation, infrastructure design, and expert witness projects.
  • Maintain high standards of technical accuracy, quality assurance, and professional practice.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrology, Water Resources, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in hydrological and/or water resources engineering.
  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrological modelling.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical writing experience, including hydrotechnical and engineering design reports.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Active membership with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligibility for membership.
  • Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel as required.

Preferred

  • Experience with industry-standard hydraulic and hydrologic modelling software.
  • Exposure to floodplain mapping, river engineering, drainage design, or forensic engineering investigations.
  • Interest in applying engineering expertise within legal and insurance-related environments.

Compensation

$85,000 – $125,000

Plus bonus program and other benefits.
