WHAT IT TAKES
The Department of Physics and Astronomy within the Faculty of Science and Technology at Douglas College offers a range of college physics courses. We invite applications for a part-time regular instructor beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Courses include 1st year preparatory and university transfer physics, and introductory astronomy. Workload distribution for the 2026-2027 academic year will be 2.0 sections in Fall 2026 and 4.0 sections in Winter 2027.

You will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in College courses. You will plan, organize and managing learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintaining quality learner‐centered instruction.
Applicants will be considered based on their experience in the available subject areas and post-secondary qualifications.
Desired Applicant:
- An earned degree (minimum M.Sc. with Ph.D. preferred) – in a major area of Physics, Astrophysics, or equivalent area(s);
- Experience in teaching and developing curriculum in introductory and general physics or astronomy courses at the post-secondary level;
- An ability and willingness to teach introductory astronomy in evening classes;
- Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities;
- Knowledge of or experience in technology that is appropriate to the discipline and its instruction;
- Strong verbal and written English language skills.
- Experience teaching engineering students and courses is an asset. Candidates who possess a P.Eng. designation may be eligible to increase workload beyond the minimum 75% that is currently available.
Additional Information
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking a part-time probationary regular instructor to start in the Fall 2026 semester. Teaching schedule will vary each semester.
Workload is assigned each year based on available sections, instructors availability and expertise of contract instructors. For the 2026-2027 academic year, six (6) sections of work are available, corresponding to a workload of 75%.
